BLACK smoke enveloped the Lincoln Memorial after a vehicle fire broke out about five miles from the monument.
Plumes from the crash hang over the National Mall, but the fire has been extinguished, according to DC Fire and EMS.
The crash on the southbound lanes of the George Washington Parkway involved a "pickup truck and trailer" per Arlington Fire and EMS, reported local Fox affiliate WTTG.
It brought "dark black and light white smoke," according to WTTG, near the Lincoln Memorial.
No immediate injuries have been reported.
The fire has caused commuter delays.

;)
At least the fire was racially balanced. That's important in Washington DC.
EV? 🤣
ROTFLMAO!!! You just made my day. That’s funny. I don’t care who you are, that’s funny right there.
Hunter comes to mind as well.
Big mike selected to replace brandon?
Thought it was another Environmental Vehicle committing suicide
The enviroweinies need to go stomp it out. Even if it is big Mike. 😁
Climate Change caused it!
This from the same folks that called some people walking around unarmed an “insurrection.” They will have trouble describing if anything serious ever does happen in the capitol district, they’ve gone overboard with their language so many times already.
Was hoping it’s the big one.
The gates of hell opening its doors to the Satanic inhabitants. /spit
The GW Parkway is all the way on the other side of the Potomac River, in Virginia, for crying out loud.
There is a section of the GW Parkway that is directly across (i.e. west) of the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial. It the wreck was there, almost at the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery, one is talking about 2-300 yards west. I’ve driven that small stretch of GWP a couple of hundred times during the 30 years I was in DC.
However, re my previous post, I’m unsure of where along the GWP that would be 5 miles away that would give that image. I’m wondering if the original location report is wrong.
HA!
Per the Arlington County Fire Department, the scene was on southbound GW Parkway prior to the Key Bridge, so it was actually across from Georgetown. What a silly headline and story. And it wasn’t five miles away from the Lincoln Memorial — more like two miles, if you’re a crow.
26,400 feet isn't 'near' anything. The folks at The Sun need to switch to decaf.
The George Washington Parkway is less than a 1/2 mile from the Monument. I'm not sure where the Sun got their info.
