A beloved father of 13 children who saved his family from a house fire started by their landlord was gunned down outside of a Brooklyn brownstone early Sunday morning in an apparent targeted attack.
Lavel Fraiser, 40, known by friends as “Flip,” was ambushed and fatally shot in the torso by a group of gunmen who were “waiting for him,” neighbors and police said.
Fraiser was found in the backyard of a building at 673 Sterling Place just after 1 a.m., police said.
“He got shot outside in front. He staggered in all the way to the back. He was hiding back there,” the building’s super, John Williams, 49, told The Post.
“I don’t know what the beef was. He was a nice guy.”

Fraiser's wife, Andriana, 28, said he was a "superhero" father to his 13 children -- four of whom they share.
"He saved me and my children’s lives. We were in a house fire last September," she said. "He saved all of us, me and my six children."

The landlord is Rafiqul Islam

“Rafiqul Islam was arrested by FDNY marshals for allegedly igniting the blaze in an interior stairwell of a property he owns at 212 Forbell St. in Cypress Hills in the early morning of Sept. 26, fire officials said.
Islam was apparently enraged that his second-floor tenants had stopped paying rent and refused to move out, so he allegedly decided to force them out by starting the fire, according to investigators.”

"Rafiq Islam, threw black tar on the front door and allegedly said he was going to burn them out of their apartment after the government stopped helping with payment in a landlord-tenant dispute dating back to January of this month. The residents have lived in the building since May 2021."
This happened in a different building owned by Islam. Apparently it is the government who stopped paying rent. This had to be during covid. Some landlords were lucky in receiving help. Anyway, me thinks the tenants were the problem there.
I wonder what the issue was at 673.

Keeping all the guilty perps in prison isn’t going to be cheap. This is NY so the terms should be shorter.
