That is true. But if you count total airline fatalities in first world countries in last 10years, it is smaller by orders of magnitude than traffic fatalities in the same countries. Any complicated machine has some risk. Even the space ships blow up once in a while.

“I also wonder whether there may be some sabotage occurring to our industries.”

For many years, the greenies have been screeching about how much fuel planes and cruise ships use, and they want everybody to cut down. Could be sabotage from those envirowhackos.

Every time something like this happens a few more people become hesitant to fly.

“Tire falls off United flight after takeoff from San Francisco; diverted plane lands safely at LAX”

So? They’re woke, and diverse, and have implemented affirmative action. So they have checked all the boxes. (They just failed to check the safety and competence boxes.)

Now thatā€™s a new take on things! Guessing you must be a guy. We will be there a week so unless they have amazing prices in SF, Iā€™m thinking one outfit would go for $40, if not a lot more. California prices.

DIL is already a fashion plate, so I feel frumpy enough around her without shopping at Walmart. And Iā€™ll be honest, over the Christmas season I looked to see if they had a Walmart near them so that I could order them some gingerbread ice cream sandwiches. They offer them seasonally, but they are a bit different than the ones we used to get when my son was a kid. Closest one was a few hours away.

I will take your advice to heart for other trips, though! Might work for other locations. Thank you!

Man, that was great! I love that song! Especially when Tom Petty covered it at the Fillmore with the Heartbreakers. Brings me back. One of my Mamaā€™s favorite songs (the original).

Odds are hugely in your favor. There are tens of thousands of flights every day. Yet when any mishap occurs it becomes news. How many hundreds of people are killed EVERY DAY in traffic accidents?

When's the last time 250 people died in a single car crash?

Probably not Boeing’s fault, being as mains on a 777 wear out in about 250 landing cycles. So unless that airframe was only a few months old, those tires were mounted and installed by United, not Boeing.

I understand, but the optics are bad and will invite more anti-Boeing criticism. IMHO Boeing should dump any non-US manufacturing ā€˜partnersā€™, eat the short-term increase in labor costs, and do everything they can to repair their reputation. To whomever criticizes them as xenophobic etc they should respond that safety is their number one concern, and no matter what it takes and who is offended they will pursue safety first.

Is it a Boeing plane? That’s my only question.

When is the last time 100,000 people got killed or badly hurt EVERY YEAR in airplane crashes? In north America cars do that every year. SIZE MATTERS.

Comparing the number killed in automobile crashes in a year to the risks from aircraft crashes is a logical fallacy of False Equivalence.

A single car crash may end the life of 1,2, or 5 people. A single aircraft crash can end the life of 250+ people.

Different steps are taken to avoid each. A wheel coming off a car is a problem that might have deadly consequences. It's normally a sign of improper installation by an amateur. A wheel falling off a commercial airliner, from a major carrier in a formerly first world country, is a sign of a very serious problem.

This obviously was the fault of

1) Trump
2) The covid vaccination
3) climate change

Or a combination of all of the above

Good grief, what a total disgrace.
