Probably not Boeing’s fault, being as mains on a 777 wear out in about 250 landing cycles. So unless that airframe was only a few months old, those tires were mounted and installed by United, not Boeing.

I understand, but the optics are bad and will invite more anti-Boeing criticism. IMHO Boeing should dump any non-US manufacturing ‘partners’, eat the short-term increase in labor costs, and do everything they can to repair their reputation. To whomever criticizes them as xenophobic etc they should respond that safety is their number one concern, and no matter what it takes and who is offended they will pursue safety first.
