Attorney General Merrick Garland appeared alongside Vice President Kamala Harris in Selma, Alabama on Sunday where he pledged to fight voter ID laws and other election integrity measures that he deemed "discriminatory, burdensome, and unnecessary."
Their appearance marked the 59th anniversary of the Bloody Sunday attacks on civil rights marchers in Selma, Alabama.
Speaking at a Selma church service to mark the anniversary of the attack by Alabama law officers on civil rights demonstrators, Garland recounted the history of voting rights since the end of slavery – a history which, he told the crowd, has "never been steady" for Black Americans and "other voters of color."
He lamented that in recent years, certain measures such as voter ID laws and redistricting maps have made it harder "for millions of eligible voters to vote and to elect the representatives of their choice."
"Those measures include practices and procedures that make voting more difficult; redistricting maps that disadvantage minorities; and changes in voting administration that diminish the authority of locally elected or nonpartisan election administrators," Garland told worshippers at Selma's Tabernacle Baptist Church, the site of one of the first mass meetings of the voting rights movement. "Such measures threaten the foundation of our system of government."
Garland said the DOJ was "fighting back." He pointed to having doubled the number of lawyers in the Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division, and his legal challenges to state and jurisdictions to implement when he deemed "discriminatory, burdensome, and unnecessary restrictions on access to the ballot, including those related to mail-in voting, the use of drop boxes, and voter ID requirements. Polls consistently show that huge majorities of Americans favor voter ID.

Yep. Another white liberal lecturing black people.
Of course, Leftists have never been able to show that Blacks face any additional burdens or barriers to obtaining official government issued photo ID. Yet that doesn’t slow them down one bit from claiming ID requirements - for this one thing only - are “racist”.
Also nevermind that practically every other democratic country on earth from Europe to Australia, Canada, Mexico, India, Brazil, etc bans mass mail in voting and requires government issued photo ID to vote. Somehow its “racist” here. I’m sure it has nothing to do with the Democrat party having a massive election fraud machine......
Paper ballots, submitted in person, one one day, Election Day with voter photo ID.

Why the left is pushing their scam...Ranked Choice Voting, all over the country.
It’s their way of ensuring that “their” chosen candidate never loses. Vote ‘til they win.

Liberals think blacks are too stupid to get voter ID.
Why aren’t the conservatives yelling loudly about the racism of the leftists whi proclaim that blacks are too stupid to obtain and use id’s?

No ID means one can vote for anyone who hasn’t voted. Great system for fraud.
Selma, Alabama? Voter ID laws discriminatory? Comparing voters ID laws to redistricting maps? These people could not stoop any lower. And this AFTER their side “won” the last Presidential election and Obama for 8 years. Pretty disgusting.
Their foundational argument is specious, at best, and criminally negligent, more likely.
Voter ID laws and redistricting maps do NOT make is more difficult for “millions” of people to vote. That is an outright lie. And, they know it.

I have to go get some seeds today, hope I don’t forget my ID and credit card in se I want to get some beer on the way home.
Might even be seen by the cops so I hope my license, license plate, proof of insurance are all up to date.

Black people who overwhelmingly have no problem with voter I.D. requirements. But he knows what’s good for them.

The only way to steal a landslide is with high tech.
The low tech stuff is just for cover.
It’s not about who votes anymore.
It’s about who counts the votes.
We need to do everything you suggested, but that will only work if we go back to dumb voting machines.
