Here is little I know. All his paintings are on a board of sorts, stiff and will stay in a frame with just the clips that hold it into the frame. The paint looks thick, almost textured. I think that’s why my friends were touching it.
So I’m guessing oils? Is there any harm in having glass over Those? Some do and some don’t.
The only ones that look different are painted on a gold or silver background. The paint looks less “lumpy” but is thick enough to be seen over the metallic background.

In a study published in February in Science Advances, researchers from the United Kingdom shared their findings on why blueberries and other blue-hued fruits appear to be that color to the human eye despite having a dark red hue on the fruit skin. (Think about if you mashed up a bunch of blueberries into a juice. That juice would be a deep reddish-purple, not blue.)
“Blueberries are observably blue; however, the pigments found in blueberries are not,” the study succinctly begins. So, why do they appear this way? As the findings state, it’s all thanks to the “epicuticular wax” coating, which the scientists called a “really neat trick” of nature.”

Those sound like Oil paintings with clips holding them into a frame.

I have never seen or heard of oil paintings having glass over them. If it has glass I would guess that is a watercolor.
