Oregon transportation leaders hope a grant to repair charging stations will make the using electrical vehicles more practical in the state.

Oregon has received a $10 million dollar grant to repair broken or malfunctioning electric vehicle charging stations across the state.
Matt Noble, Oregon Department of Transportation spokesperson, said broken charging stations have made electric vehicles impractical for many Oregonians.
“Maybe five, 10 years ago, EV drivers were having more of a range anxiety. It was: ‘Can my EV reach a charging station?’” he said. “That’s really shifted in the last couple of years to ‘I’m confident my EV can get me there, but when I get there will the charging station actually be working?’”
Noble said the goal is to create an accessible, reliable network of stations.
“The more folks that can see an EV fitting into their lives, getting them where they need to go, then those people will be more inclined to consider an EV for their next vehicle purchase,” he said. “The more EVs we can get on our roads, that will reduce emissions from transportation, and that’s one of the best ways to address climate change.”
Noble said the federal government has identified around 135 eligible charging stations around the state. The companies that own those stations will need to come up with 20% matching funds to be eligible for the program.
According to ODOT, there are about 2,900 EV charging ports available for public use in Oregon total and about 80,000 registered electric vehicles in the state as of September.
Noble said the state is still developing a timeline to roll out the repair program.

Wait ‘till Oregon’s’ junkies find out there’s something in them that can be stripped, stolen and sold.
I have been reading some articles lately about people stealing the charging cables due to the high content of copper in them.
Now that we have millions of new criminals in this country from outside, and millions more protected from a jail sentence due to laws not being enforced, or laws defanged, that problem isn’t going to improve.
I wonder if the cable contains less than a thousand dollars in copper, if people stealing them can just walk up to them, rip them from the charger, and walk away right under the noses of people with no fear of prosecution, much as shoplifters do now.
Probably not, but you get my point.
Gas stations for a while started having fire suppression nozzles overhead near the pump area. Why not add those to every EV place? Or pass laws the charges cannot be close to buildings.
Note even plugged in at the time of fire. 11,000 gallons of water and large group working on the fire.

How much copper is in those charging stations? I know that Comcast had a problem with standby battery charging equipment used to keep the line amps working. Thieves would take the entire system—battery, charging transformer and power lines. The only way it was known the equipment was stolen was when line signal stopped when there was a power failure.
The way Comcast tracked the thieves was by putting GPS trackers inside the battery housing.
Around here, lately we’ve had a spate of thieves stealing the ground wires of light poles...................

A couple years back thieves were stealing entire AC units outside of peoples and businesses...............
They’ll blame that on MAGA no doubt!
If you want an accessible, reliable network of charging stations, put the government in charge. LOLOL...
