A list of product recalls related to a contaminated cheese product has expanded amid concerns over listeria.

There are now at least 57 products listed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as being recalled due to potential contamination by Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that is potentially harmful to people. The latest recall was issued on February 12 by Fresh Creations Foods for its Chicken Street Taco Meal Kit Units sold at Sprouts.

Some of it is and some of it isn’t. There’s a lot of regular supermarket stuff on the list, too.

...recent laboratory data show that queso fresco and cotija made by Rizo-López Foods are making people in this outbreak sick," the CDC said, adding that listeria was traced to a container where "cheeses are kept before they are packaged." After numerous recalls, Rizo-Lopez Foods CEO Edwin Rizo told Newsweek on February 7: "As soon as we were aware of this, we made the immediate decision to stop production and voluntarily recall all our products manufactured in our facility.

Thanks for the warning.

From your link.......

Retailers where these products are sold include Costco, Walmart, Save Mart, Lucky, Stater Bros. Markets, Fresh & Ready Foods and Sprouts Farmers Market.

Retailers where these products are sold as unbranded taco kits and meals include Albertsons, Carrs-Safeway, Costco, Eagle, Lucky, Jack & Olive, Pavilions, Randalls, Safeway, Save Mart, Shaw’s, Sprig & Sprout, Sprouts, Star Market, Stater Bros. Markets, Tom Thumb, and Vons.

Consumers are warned not to eat, sell or serve the recalled products. Throw them away. Those with suspected symptoms of listeriosis should contact their health care provider to report their symptoms and receive treatment.

That’s some ****ty website, MSN. It’s a “story” written by some alleged human writer, but all that’s there is a short video with an allegedly musical soundtrack and a few captions. The useful info in those captions could have fit in the headline.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infection in children, the elderly or people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms usually start within two weeks after eating food contaminated with Listeria, but may start as early as the same day or as late as 100 weeks after.

I bought the chicken tortilla kit from COSTCO and served it to friends about a week and a half ago... Is a hundred weeks really possible? Anyone know if an individual store would know if they had the infected product?

FWIW, we received notifications from Costco for the very few items we purchased there that were later involved in a recall. Retailers have the ability to track batches of products pretty precisely. How they handle that info probably varies greatly...
