DEI is Being Weaponized
You’re so right about the fear running this town. But this is the first time when I’ve been afraid to say anything about how DEI is being weaponized. I’ve been a liberal progressive my entire life, and a few of the Emmy-nominated shows I’ve worked on actively advanced the causes being fought for — but now it’s like I’m no longer wanted at the table solely because of my age, gender & skin color.
Trouble in Other Entertainment Industry Guilds
I’m a senior illustrator in the Art Directors guild. I just watched your video on the WGA DEI checkboxes. The ADG was sending these surveys out at an extremely aggressive level last year.... There was also something they called J.E.D.I Training Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion training. Iatse ran a similar census that they said was voluntary but was aggressive in members insisting they participate....

I don’t hold it against the black actors. If they can get the work...more power to them.
The studios are the ones pushing this DEI crap, and it is well beyond any semblance of the actual racial makeup in this country.

Woke Hollywood is alienating much of the audience and leaving a lot of money on the table. This is an opportunity. In a healthy ecosystem, a rising competitor would step in with counterprogramming to fill the niche. So where is this going to come from?

For many years I have purchased DVD copies of movies that I really liked. I didn't trust the streaming approach. We didn't have the network bandwidth to do it. This past week, we have been limping along with data off our cellular phones. The fiber optic 1 Gbps connection failed just after 3 PM on Sunday. All the streaming content my wife enjoys is inaccessible. The Ring cameras stopped working. The weather station network failed. I've had to fallback to the hotspot from my cellular phone to access my employer's VPN.
My wife re-discovered the value of DVD/Bluray disks this week. They work fine when the network connection is gone.

Norman Lear used to have Republican conservatives writing in his rooms! Nowadays, that would be impossible.Says it all.
Which is why I shrug and walk away rather then saddling up to ride to their rescue. Stupid should hurt.

I print shirts for a living which can get really boring. I play podcasts and YouTube videos to keep myself occupied.
My subscription list includes WDW Pro, Nerdrotic, Clownfish TV, Disparu, Valliant Renegade, Overlord DVD, Greg Owen, the Critical Drinker and others.
It serves a similar function as Free Republic. It lets me know that I am not the only one that thinks the current culture is crap, that Hollywood is nothing but leftist propaganda.
Give them a try.

I have roku with britbox acorn and Met on Demand and occasionally Netflix. I watch utube drybar comedy with occasional commercials.
I have enormous freedom to stroll through some great series. I get to watch overseas films and series. I think streaming is wonderful.
Yes, rather like the Blue Cities pushing themselves as "Sanctuaries". When people take them at their word, they are not happy about it.

The threadbare trope offered is all this is done in order to appeal to "Today's Audience". Looks like the verdict from today's actual audience is in, and it isn't good.
You act like that is a good thing.
“White” is still a majority of the U.S. population, and we’re over 70 percent white if we count white hispanics.
Jews are now rebranded as white (as opposed to the old idea that they were a Semitic people, and in contrast to all other peoples from the Levant, who are POCs in Wokestan).
People of East Asian descent are now suspect as white adjacent. They will soon be joined by people of South Asian descent, who after all tend to study hard, do well on standardized testing, work hard and grok math, which are all indicators of “whiteness” in Wokestan.
Male will always be approximately half of the population.
Pale and male pretty much built the film industry, at least in the U.S. and Europe where it all began. Which is of course the point: DEI is about expropriation, not inclusion.
If we played identity politics the way the left does, you would have to be pale and male to participate, since it would be cultural appropriation for anyone else to get into the game.
Hollywood writers and directors have no experience in say writing and directing.
I bet they know their coffee shops.
Listen to the beginning where the writers admit they know nothing of the source material or do not like it!
