A California child killer who reportedly beat his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son so badly he suffered dozens of traumatic injuries, broken bones and “pulverized” organs, is one step closer to walking free after state officials approved his parole despite a prosecutor’s pledge to keep him behind bars for the rest of his life.
The only chance to uphold that vow is now in the hands of Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Patrick Goodman, now 49, killed Elijah Sanderson in early December 2000. The medical examiner reportedly found that some of the injuries had been caused by swinging the child by his wrist into a wall repeatedly.
A parole hearing took place in December, where District Attorney Brooke Jenkins’ office argued against Goodman’s release. Critics have become more vocal after the San Francisco Public Safety News site published the transcript Wednesday.
“I hope that one day I will be able to show Elijah’s family, society and everyone who got caught in the ripple effect of my actions, that I’m no longer the monster that I used to be,” he reportedly told parole board commissioners at a Dec. 14 hearing.
Commissioners Michele Minor and Dane Blake decided to give him that chance.
“We find that Mr Goodman does not currently pose an unreasonable risk to public safety and is therefore suitable for parole,” Minor said after 15 minutes of deliberations following the hearing, SF Public Safety reported.
State prison records show that, in May 2022, the parole board denied Goodman for at least three years. But last month, the board reversed course and granted him parole.

Good luck finding a picture of the victim.
This is why I support the death penalty. Life in prison does not mean life in prison.
How many innocent people died by the hands of someone once on death row but released into society?
When released from prison, Goodman can be found and shot in the head. Thusly, he can receive the real sentence he deserves
He [Goodman] had become outraged with the boy after he let the family dog into the house. Goodman later admitted that he grabbed Sanderson [Elijah] and repeatedly slammed him against a wall.Maybe Elijah Sanderson will get justice if Newsom is running and does similar to Goodman that Bildo Klintoon did with Ricky Ray Rector. The autopsy report detailed injuries ranging from a broken neck and broken ribs to a severed bowel and a severed renal artery. Fifty separate external injuries were recorded, the anti-crime website, San Francisco Public Safety reported.
Goodman, who previously served a two-year sentence for injuring a man in a hit and run, was convicted of murder and child abuse in 2002 and was sentenced at San Francisco Superior Court to a term of 25 years to life in prison. Sign up for NewsletterNewsletter
His release was approved by the state Board of Parole Hearings on December 14, 2023. During the hearing, Goodman told the parole board: "I hope that one day I will be able to show Elijah's family, society and everyone who got caught in the ripple effect of my actions, that I'm no longer the monster that I used to be."
During the hearing Goodman said that he killed Sanderson because he had let the family dog into the house. He also admitted lying in court when he accused Elijah's mother of murdering her own child. When challenged about whether, at the time, he was prepared to let Sanderson's mother go to prison for his actions, he replied: "I was just trying to get the attention off of me".
People claim vigilantism is wrong because the government process of justice is right, but what about when the government process fails to protect society from dangerous predators??
Government is just people. There is nothing magical about government. The justice process was supposed to ensure cooler heads prevailed, that facts were used, that logic and not emotion was used, that law as we all want it is applied, but what happens when a corrupt justice system intends to harm the people? What happens when the elites buy the government, when the wealthy elites have a monopoly over the people?
King George found out in 1775.
Samuel Johnson said that justice must not only be done, but must be seen to done. Anything less than a death sentence for Mr. Goodman (cruel misnomer!) is an injustice. Life in prison is hardly enough.
That coconut he’s calling a head would look great with some 9mm drilled through it.
WTF
With no Death Penalty in CA, they gave him 25 years to life. Proper sentence would have been a swift and public execution. He claims he is not the monster he was when he brutally murdered a toddler. I believe him: He’s a completely different kind of monster now. Time to set him free! (What a world...)
Newsom overrules parole board: ‘Serious danger’
When people wake up to the fact that the criminal element is the base for the democrat party they just might wise up.
Joey and Hunter wink.
Short man syndrome?
You're right; I searched several sites but could not find one.
Often the mother posts a photo of a child victim to Facebook, where tabloids grab the image and spread it worldwide. Just this past week, a 5-year-old car crash victim's last photograph, with tubes and braces in a hospital bed, was published by DailyMail with her father's permission—he wanted other speeding drunk drivers to think twice. The photo was so heart-rending that numerous people in the comments couldn't bear it, insisting the photo should be taken down.
I also remember the infamous coffin photos of Emmett Till, released in the late 50s - early 60s by his mother, so people would see the violence done by race haters to her child.
so much for prison justice...
