Ex-Hertz Tesla Model 3s Cost as Little as $14,000. Would You Buy One?

Hertz is offloading used Tesla Model 3s from its fleet at a deep discount. They may be former rentals, but they're cheap enough that you have to ask yourself—would you buy one for $14,000?
Hertz initially ordered 100,000 cars from Tesla, but has since pushed back its EV adoption for a multitude of reasons. The company blamed high repair costs and recent price cuts on new Teslas for the decision in an earnings call reported by CNBC. It's possible that the arrival of the 2024 Model 3's "Highland" facelift may also have pushed Hertz to liquidate. In fact, Hertz is already offloading excess Teslas, sometimes for less than half what they cost new.

It’s a pretty good deal... Until they catch on fire in your garage, and burn your house down.

I saw no mention in the article of any included extra batteries.

I love how a car that sold new back in the day for over $60K is now worth $14,000.
Would I buy one? No. I’m retired. But when I was working my office had employee parking with some charging stations. Free!
It would have benefited me a lot to own a Tesla since my commute was 50 miles. Each way. But the $50K price tag was too much. I bought a VW Jetta for under $20,000 that got 40 mpg.
Problem solved.

Sometimes part of the point of renting a car is to drive it like a rental.

IF they paid me $14K, I guess I would reluctantly take one off their hands for em.

Nope. If I needed another vehicle it would be another of the one I currently drive.

I live in Pennsylvania.
It is currently 12 degrees.
An EV would be useless to me, and anyone else who lives in PA.

Hertz always sells vehicles at a discount after 2-3 years or 40,000 miles. We bought our 2018 Nissan Murano with 43,000 miles from Hertz in Scottsdale.
We bought our 2018 Toyota Avalon in March 2019 with 23,000 miles on it for $20,000 (manufactured in January 2018, 14 months old). Great car. Except we have gone through TWO batteries in the Phoenix summers. And on our third set of Michelins at 93,000 miles. 100% satisfied with the value. We got ours from the Camelback location in Phoenix.I didn't know about a Scottsdale location, just Camelback and Bell Road in Phoenix.

I hear the renters "beat the hell out of them..."
Hertz mainly rents to businessmen. My dark blue Toyota Avalon from Hertz shows no evidence of having been mistreated.

If I lived in a warm place, had a parking place for the home charger, and didn’t need the vehicle as my primary transportation but as a second car, yeah, maybe

Would never buy a car from a rental to start with yet alone a electric one.

They are going to PAY ME $14,000 to take one? Let me think about it.
