Nostradamus - The Prophet of Doom Documentary

The man known to history as Nostradamus was born in 1503 as Michel de Nostredame. 0:13 The exact circumstances of his birth are unclear, but he is believed to have been born in December 0:19 of that year in the Provence region of southern France, most likely on either the 14th or 0:25 21st in the town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. His father was Jaume or Jacques de Nostredame, a notary who worked for the government in 0:35 Provence. Michel’s mother was Reyniére, a granddaughter of Pierre de Saint-Rémy, a prominent physician 0:42 in the town of Saint-Rémy. Jacques and Reyniére had at least nine children, though the precise number is unclear, a not 0:49 unusual occurrence in a time of patchy birth records and high infant mortality. 0:55 The Nostredame family had a somewhat shadowy background and there is little information about Michel’s childhood. 1:01 The family was possibly Jewish in origin. This placed them in a difficult position, because the Jewish people had come under severe 1:08 persecution in France and other countries such as England in the High Middle Ages, with 1:14 governments issuing orders for them to either leave those dominions entirely or convert 1:19 to Christianity. Many converted, but continued to practice Judaism in private. 1:25 The Nostredame family held out for many centuries to come, in part because the weak de-centralised 1:31 nature of the French crown made royal enforcement of such directives in regions such as Provence 1:37 difficult. Evidently though, the pressure to convert was significant enough by the mid-fifteenth

Every person alive - and many animals, also - has an inborn, instinctive ability to predict future events. Some have more, some less. This ability often presents itself first in the dream world, but there are lots of historical accounts of little kids being making predictions that ended up coming true.

I liken this ability to athletic ability - almost everyone, with practice, can hit a baseball with a baseball bat. Very few people, however, can become a major league home-run hitter no matter how hard they practice.

Informative of the historical person, Nostradamus. I don’t give a fig for the content of his vague “predictions”. Maybe. Maybe not true predictions.

“Nostradamus . . . vague “predictions”.

I noticed that too.

FWIW Department: Playing charades once, and got “The Prophesies of Nostradamus”. Was successful in getting the group to “The pro-something of nose day us”, which I considered a success, even if the others did not...

I once saw the future in a dream. The actual event didn’t happen until 3 weeks later and in real life I didn’t see what I saw in my dream - but it was exactly what happened. I dreamed someone died and he died exactly where and when I saw him die. I was not close to this person, in fact, we barely spoke because he was Italian and didn’t speak English.

For a while I was afraid to go to sleep but at least that sort of thing never happened to me again. But I always wonder....HOW?????

I had a sister-in-law who was house hunting. She had a dream about the perfect house for them. A few days later, they viewed a house that was identical to the one in her dream, except the dream house had a creek in front of it, but the real house didn’t. A few days after they bought it and moved in, there was a big rain storm. Out in front of the house, A drainage ditch ran parallel to the street. It was full of rain water, and was flowing just like a creek.

His sources were demonic, so his predictions were faulty, yet general.

He took parts of Bible prophecy and put his own spin on it.

This has happened to me a whole bunch of times. Too many to count. I don’t write dreams down but I have a knack for remembering the seemingly predictive ones.

Since this started I have met many people who have seen future events, mostly in dreams. A lot of the time it’s just little bits and pieces, irrelevant happenings like having a conversation with someone on public transportation. However, if you try to keep track of it all, you will start to realize that you can be aware of possible occurrences in the future and the awareness is often helpful.

“Future” and “past” are just handy terms. There are always echoes of the future occurring just as there are memories of the past. Isn’t it true that you can forget completely about something that happened in the past and then have whatever it is sort of storm in upon you during a time of contemplation or stress? It’s the same with the future.

I once had a premonition - this was not a dream, but I saw the whole thing in a flash, like a memory, except I could tell it was in the future - and I was tripping on a piece of broken asphalt walking with Mr K (not the one on this forum) to the mailbox, which is about 1/8 of a mile away from the house.

The premonition made me shudder and then I forgot it - until that evening, when I very rashly decided to walk barefoot to the mailbox in the deepening dusk with Mr K.

I tripped on a piece of broken asphalt and fell heavily into the ditch by the roadside. I hurt my foot pretty badly. (Why did I decide not to wear shoes? INSANITY.)

I think there’s a distinction between prophecy and simple predictive mental activity.

I’m not a big fan of Nostradamus. I kinda don’t get why he’s considered an authority.
