The early ‘90s was truly a different time for luxury cars. BMW and Mercedes-Benz were niche players in the U.S., selling around 84,000 and 75,000 Autobahn-tuned sedans, coupes, and station wagons respectively in 1994. By contrast, Cadillac moved over 210,000 DeVilles, Sevilles, Fleetwoods, and Eldorados. That's more than both German brands combined. The Cimarron was a fading memory, Lexus wasn’t posing an existential threat yet, and life was good. Just ask any of the fine folks at Williamson Cadillac near Miami, the subject of this candid showroom video shot 30 years ago.
If you’ve ever wondered what it was like to pick out a brand-new luxury car several years before the new millennium, this video is worth a watch. Just don’t listen to it with headphones on—mono audio, a high-pitched feedback whine, and your eardrums aren’t a good mix. (Ask me how I know.)

The 90s had my least favorite Cadillacs.
Yes the cars of the 60’s were about the only way to travel planes were to unsafe and like trains most didn’t go near where you wanted to go.
Seen the USA many times my my Chevrolet pop had a caddy comfort all the way.
Bring back the fins!
The smaller ones since the 1990s are a bad attempt to make some Euro-luxury-sport-car instead of a luxury land yacht.
GM should have started a new line for those smaller cars instead of corrupting the Cadillac brand. (Not that the 1980s Cadillac Cimarron hadn't already made it a joke).
“The Cimarron was a fading memory.”
___________
Completely faded from my memory. I had to look it up, because I wasn’t sure what the article was referring to. Apparently on the market from ‘82-‘88. I got out of the Navy in ‘82 and was driving a 1979 Datsun 210 5-speed hatchback that got 48 mpg highway and never broke down.
Looks like they got the target audience pegged.
I still remember my dad’s Cadillac. It felt like piloting a ship when I drove it.
My dad bought our Eldorado brand new in 1970 for $9,702.05. it was Firemist metallic red with tan leather interior.
500 cubic inches, 425 HP front wheel drive, street racer! I saw him shut down a 440 CUDA between street lights!
My dad would let me drive him in our Eldo to school when I was in the 7th grade in 1972. He owned an auto garage just down the street.
Gotta love the Pontiac ramming prow!
“I got out of the Navy in ‘82”
I started my Navy recruiting career in 82. Funny story; GSA (who provides vehicles for most government agencies) ran out of cars. They went to the local GM dealer and leased our cars. When our guys went to pick up the cars they were told they could have Chevy Celebrities or Cadillac Cimarrons and there was no price difference. They called the CO and asked if they could get the Cimarrons. His reply, “There is no way in heck I’m going to have 60 Minutes show up and ask why Navy Recruiting has a parking lot full of Cadillacs”. We got the Celebrities.

I had a 1988 Brougham. It was like driving a couch.
