The following cities ranked among the top 10 most "unsafe" places in the U.S. during the holidays, according to new research from Vivint, a smart-home security company.
Researchers combined "property crime data, Google search trends and other security factors" to rank the 50 largest cities in the country in order by crime risk.
Those factors include data from the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), Google Trends searches related to holiday security, security features for Airbnb listings, registered Neighborhood Watch groups and National Insurance Crime Bureau statistics, according to Vivint.
Here are the top 10 . . . .

3. Salt Lake City, Utah
4. Denver, CO
5. Seattle, WA
6. Burlington VA
7. Rutland,VA
8. Atlanta, GA
9. Minneapolis, MN

“The 10 cities that ranked last for holiday crime risk include Shreveport, Louisiana; Gulfport, Mississippi; Kansas City, Kansas; Oakland, California; North Las Vegas, Nevada; Santa Ana, California; Montgomery, Alabama; Glendale, Arizona; Henderson, Nevada; and Jacksonville, Florida.”
Basically, any city with a Democrat mayor and city government.
I think that’s Burlington and Rutland Vermont. Very violent cities, run by democrats.
There’s some places in Gulfport, Mississippi you don’t go.

Oops. My bad. I typed in the incorrect abbreviation for Vermont. Thanks for the correction.
And, Merry Christmas!
For Seattle....you can generally draw a 5-mile circle from the Space Needle, with the first mile fairly intense on a place you want avoid.
Newark, DE!
Yes, that one really surprised me. At Christmas a large percentage of the population isn’t even there with the University of Delaware on break.
Also a has a smallish population and quite a bit of Newark is rural?
Rutland VERMONT? Being from New England originally, and having been in Rutland more than a few times, this is a mind-blower. In my day they rolled up the sidewalks at sundown in Rutland.
Now BURLINGTON I can understand. That’s where the university is.
Yes, some of the surrounding areas are rural.
This is stats at play.
Crime as percentage of population.
If my berg had a population of three and one was assaulted it would have a 30% rate and shoot to the top of the list.
So where am I spending Christmas? St Louis. We only actually went into St Louis once to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Otherwise, we’ve been in Ballwin and it’s pretty safe there. Today the temperature in Ballwin is actually 20 degrees higher than in DFW.
“There’s some places in Gulfport, Mississippi you don’t go.”
A couple - but Moss Point is worse - and it’s relatively small.
I’m surprised Memphis TN is not listed.
Merry Christmas.
Surely they mean Newark, NJ. No?
Baltimore and the City of Brotherly Hate are falling down on the job.
Burlington is over 90% white (85.6%) and Asian (4.6%). I never had any sense of menace there. A really nice place with fine people. I have to doubt these statistics.
I guess if you count Jane and Bernie’s grifting it might be true.
