NATIONAL FRENCH FRIED SHRIMP DAY
On December 21st, seafood lovers celebrate National French Fried Shrimp Day. Enjoyed all year long, this delicious dish delights many across the country.
#FrenchFriedShrimpDay
Americans eat more shrimp than any other seafood.
The word prawn is used loosely to describe any large shrimp, sometimes known as jumbo shrimp. Some countries use the word prawn exclusively for all shrimp.
Preparing the shrimp for consumption usually involves the removal of the head, shell, tail, and sand vein. There are many ways to cook shrimp. Common methods of preparation include baking, boiling, broiling, sauteing, frying, and grilling.
Cooking time is delicate for shrimp and they are at their best when not over cooked.
A healthy food, shrimp is low in calories and high in levels of omega-3s, calcium, iodine, and protein. Shrimp is also known to be considered good for the circulatory system. *The preparation of the shrimp does impact the caloric count.

Shrimp FAQ
Q. What is the world's largest shrimp?
A. The world's largest species of shrimp is the zebra shrimp.
Q. What's the difference between a shrimp and a prawn?
A. While both shrimp and prawns are crustaceans, there are several differences between the two. One of the more notable differences is that prawns primarily live in freshwater while shrimp primarily live in saltwater. Both animals have segmented bodies. However, each segment of the prawn overlaps the next segment while the head and tail segments overlap the torso on the shrimp. Another difference is the number of claws. Shrimp Day!.............Every day is Shrimp Day in Florida!...........
“Shrimp Day!.............Every day is Shrimp Day in Florida!...........”
What is French Fried Shrimp?
“Every day is Shrimp Day in Florida!”
AMEN!
The wife bought me a flat top griddle for Christmas so I started researching recipes.
There’s a guy on YouTube that does demos for Blackstone griddles at Walmart’s and Cabella’s.
He also does a lot of videos from his home in Colorado.
One recipe he demonstrated called for shrimp. He stated because of being so far inland he has to rely on FROZEN shrimp.......my 1st thought was, how do people live like that? 😁
The freshest shrimp I ever had my brother-in-law caught in the St. Marys estuary around Kings Bay................
How is this French?
Don’t do the fried thing anymore.
I just peel away the bread coating and eat the shrimp...............
I believe it.
Same with whatever I catch in the surf.
Bring it home, clean and cook it that night without ever being frozen is as good or better than anything I’ve ever had in a restaurant.
We were fishing with him one time in St. Marys when one of the Trident subs came by on its way out to the Atlantic.
IT WAS HUGE! I had neve seen one before. The only sub I had ever seen was a WWII one in Mobile Alabama at the Battleship Alabama Park. It was big, but would look like a guppy compared to a Trident....................
My Scout Troop had an overnight Cruze out of St Mary’s on the USS Maryland boomer. The trip was written up in Boys Life
I have a photo of me on the deck as we passed the tip of Cumberland Island and Fort Clinch
Good flounder fishing around Fort Clinch................
I’m a big fan of breaded, deep-fried skrimp.
That bread will kill ya!............
I worked in a fried seafood restaurant from the time I was 12 to 18 in Mobile. That recipe includes sugar. Who in the world puts sugar in regular fried shrimp? I’ll tell you who; the same fat morons who put sugar in cole slaw, that’s who. I made about a kabillion pounds of cole slaw when I worked at that restaurant. You know how many times I added sugar? NONE, because sugar doesn’t belong in cole slaw. That’s all I got to say about that.
.
We love shrimp! My wife loves them french fried and in Shrimp deJonghe.
I like them in pasta w/olive oil and garlic, with lemon. And just plain ol shrimp cocktail with Hoffman House cocktail sauce.
Our cat Charlie loves shrimp; he would probably kill himself eating them if we let him, he cries like a baby when he knows we have them…
