I’d prefer a more permanent solution involving rope................
There was a HBO special on telemarketers (in this case police associations) and it turned out that they put politicians on the payroll.....
Congress is in this up to their necks.
I enjoy these too for similar reasons. They got my mom’s SS number when she had dementia. Told her some BS like people were trying to get her. We stopped the threat, but it messed her up mentally for months. Bastards.
I’d be OK with public execution of these scam artists. I’d bring a chair and popcorn.
My favorite Scam Buster is Atomic Shrimp.
I love Scammer Payback.
The payback scammer has tried to involve law enforcement and they won’t be bothered.
I have a friend who was sitting and watching a football game, when he got a call for someone selling “vitamins.”
He had nothing better to do, so he started chatting them up. He had soooo many questions! He would agree he needed them, get halfway through his credit card number, and then he would suddenly have another question! The guy would go ask his supervisor and come back with an answer, which led to another series of questions.
3 hours later they hung up on him.
starting with Medicare advantage sales programs.
I don’t know what people here think about it, but I think that one of the BEST things that could be done is to take away their ability to spoof phone numbers that show up on your caller ID as from somewhere in the US when it’s really from some other place or country. Telecommunications companies actually allow this - must be some kind of revenue stream from it or some benefit. I can’t see any valid reason for it, myself.
I was sitting here reading this and got two of these calls. One had no one there, and the other one got to “How are you today?”. I answered, like I always do, “Just peachy keen!” and they promptly hung up. I have found that 80% to 90% of them will hang up. I’m not real sure why. I did have one guy in very broken English ask me, “What does that mean?”. I explained it to him and he still didn’t get it.
I do try to have fun with them, especially the computer scammers. I’ve kept some on the line for 45 minutes. I figure if they’re trying to scam me, they aren’t going after someone else who might be more susceptible.
It would probably shock you how many people get scammed because they are greedy. Sweepstakes scams count on this.
The best thing you can do for gullible people is to set their phone to only answer numbers in their contacts. We had a Deputy come to our Kiwanis meeting to speak on scams and a member fell for one they mentioned a month later.
gotta love Pirogi, but i never understood the hair...
