Years ago, the Florida legislature ground to an angry halt over whether to make Key Lime Pie or Pecan Pie Florida’s “state pie”. Precisely because the stakes were so small, the acrimony was gigantic.
At the time, Key Lime Pie was the winner, of round #1 it seems, as last year, there was yet another debate over what should be named as the “state dessert”, with the contender being Strawberry Shortcake. Strawberry Shortcake won.

Custard Pie. Or Buttermilk Pie which is pretty much a more tangy version without nutmeg.
I try to do "lost pie" recipes, ones you will never see on a menu in even the fanciest pie shop. There are a lot of them out there.
