My three favorites, "I Love Lucy". "Star Trek", and "Lost in Space", with a special mention to "Green Acres"
Combat
Rat Patrol
I Spy
Secret Agent
The Prisoner
Combat & Rat Patrol were the inspiration for all the adolescent boys on my block in Kansas City. All we played, all the time, was War, in two opposing teams. In scenarios based on the TV shows.
The character of John Drake in Secret Agent was a lesson in cool.
Emergency and Adam 12. Jack Webb was good at tv.
I'd forgotten about this; but, you are right. Great series.
Just watched ep9 during diner.
Crazy ..
Petticoat Junction. I was about 15 when that was on. Oh, the fantasies that show spawned!
We just recently watched all seasons of the Avengers. Loved, especially, the seasons with Mrs Peel!
Yes. If I got there and found there was no place for my critter, I’d do what the old man did - move along and find someplace better.
I’m sure that somewhere in those ‘many mansions’ the Lord made a place for those of us who have loved our animals.
I still love Green Acres. The Agriculture agent, Hank was the best. His stop and start narrative, changing the subject several times was priceless.
All of yours, but the Golf.
Anyone remember Honey West? I loved that show.
I’m pretty disappointed in you, FRiends ;^) - it took 200 replies to mention Arrested Development. A truly brilliant show that unfortunately lasted only 2 1/2 seasons.
I’ve watched the entire series 3 or 4 times and still catch new jokes, they are that tightly packed. Heck, the writers would often would set up a joke in one season and execute the punchline in the next one.
Tobias is one of the funniest characters I’ve ever seen - a flaming homo who doesn’t know he’s gay.
You’re the only one mentioning the great I Led Three Lives. I grew up on that, Dragnet/Badge 714, Highway Patrol, then Have Gun, Will Travel and Wanted, Dead or Alive, then Star Trek TOS, Gunsmoke — and John Wayne and Audey Murphy on Saturday afternoons (a dime until I was 12, then a quarter).
I could have listed many, many more fantastic old shows, but thought that others would, so just posted a few.
As a kid, I was hooked on I LED THREE LIVES and quite a few other "adult" shows as well.
Like you, I loved DRAGNET, HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL, and am a HUGE fan of the original STAR TREK.
In the summer, our local movie theatre had a children's morning of movies, cartoons, serials ( FLASH GORDON ), on Tuesdays, which cost 12 cents. There were ushers and matrons to look over us all and since NOBODY acted up, back then, they didn't ever have anything to do.
I had to do some digging but my earliest
TV memory was a magical frog !
‘Andy’s Gang’ was the show starring
Andie Devine who would say;
“Plunk you Magic Twanger” and FROGGY would appear in a puff of smoke!
.
TV destroyed our Nation.
Look at us now walking around with tiny personal screens permanently attached to our brains.
.
We had a good run
See my post about ‘Andy’s Gang’
.
How about ROUTE 66 ?
1. Highway Patrol, Brodrick Crawford
2. Star Trek, Original
3. Twelve O Clock High, first year.
4. Fugitive
5. Andy (with Barney, Thelma Lou, Helen)
6. Death Valley Days
7. Mary Tyler Moore
It's like watching top level cinema on a small screen.
Casting, props, scenery, acting, plots, dialogue, intrigue, etc. They really did it well.
I was a fan of Boss Hogg and Dr. Smith.
I shamefully admit I actually said, “Plunk your magic twanger, Froggy,” a week or two ago. Nobody got it. “Hiya, kids, Hiya!” rings no bells these days, either.
And yes, I remember laughing at old folks doing just what we’re enjoying now, 65 years later…
