This is old news bud.
He had to quit singing due to esophagus problems.
Really good guy. Pretty much founded Red Dirt Music. Most Texans miss him.
austin is the self-anointed “music capital of the world” so they think anybody who’s famous locally must be world-famous.
Then there’s this:

I saw him perform at the Troubador fest in College Station this past summer. He played well, but looked like death.

Staunch conservative yet married one of the Dixie twits.

I saw about 2 minutes of him on Austin City Limits. He was awful and appeared to be really stoned. It certainly wasn’t country.
Wasn’t he married to one of the Dippy Chicks, sorry Dixie Chicks, if they can still be called that.

He wrote a lot more.
Cattle rancher songwriter good guy.

I heard Marty Robbins was dead.....
Well, sometimes it just takes a Texan..
He didn't say it, the author of the piece said it.
For many of us who pay attention to Country/Americana music, he was a significant artist until he was forced to retire due to throat problems. He was also a good conservative. He was married to a Dixie Tw*t, but had the sense to divorce her back in 2008.
