Legendary lingerie chain Victoria’s Secret said its sales took a nose dive after featuring woke soccer player Megan Rapinoe as a brand ambassador.
Following the news of poor sales, the company has announced that they’re going back to basics and steering clear of ‘woke’ ad campaigns.
The Washington Examiner reports:
Lingerie retailer Victoria’s Secret plans to withdraw its attempt at being more inclusive with its marketing , reverting to its original reputation in the wake of decreased sales.
The brand, known for hiring beautiful models, has tried to diversify its models over the past few years, including plus-size and transgender representatives.
However, the rebrand attempt has not translated to increased sales , with the outlet’s projected revenue for this year at $6.2 billion, down by almost 20% compared to 2020’s $7.5 billion.
“Despite everyone’s best endeavors, it’s not been enough to carry the day,” Victoria’s Secret CEO Martin Waters said.
Part of the attempted rebrand included hiring Megan Rapinoe , an athlete and activist who has advocated transgender women competing in women’s sports, and Valentina Sampaio, who became the outlet’s first transgender model.
In the wake of Sampaio’s hiring, Ed Razek, former chief marketing officer of Victoria’s Secret, resigned from the outlet.
The New York Post reported:
Kathleen Chen said that the brand’s efforts to promote inclusivity – which included making LGBTQ pro women’s soccer player and outspoken leftist Megan Rapinoe, as well as a transgender woman, brand spokesmodels and getting rid of its famous “Angels” supermodels – gained “favorable reviews from online critics [but] never translated into sales.”
According to the numbers, the lingerie brand’s projected revenue for 2023 is $6.2 billion, which is 5% lower than it was last year, and even lower than 2020, when the brand’s revenue was $7.5 billion.
According to BusinessOfFashion, the company now aims to “Improve profitability and cross back over $7 billion in annual sales.”
The brand now plans to roll out activewear and swimwear, and pdate its existing stores.
“We’ve been insufficiently differentiated in this difficult market,” Waters said.
“(But) our ambition of being the world’s leading fashion retailer of intimate apparel is unchanged.”
The woke approach didn’t work!
LOL…”INCREASED” — not only did they not increase, sales COLLAPSED! Talk about papering over a disaster. I still can’t get over the fact these companies were trampling all over each other to get through the WOKE door without thinking about what they were doing. At least their WOKE CMO left the company (more likely axed).
“Despite everyone’s best endeavors, it’s not been enough to carry the day” — Victoria’s Secret CEO Martin Waters said.
Another big LOL. What “best efforts”? Do they think they are medieval alchemists who can turn lead into gold? Turn fat hogs into svelt princesses?
What I’d give for just ONE of these CEOs to be honest, come right out, and say “This decision to go WOKE was an unmitigated disaster and we will never make that mistake again. Our target customers do not aspire to be an unhealthy fatty nor do they admire a mentally ill man pretending to be a woman.”
She probably would not be suitable for something like this, either.
Maybe Victorias Secret sells boxers
There are just so many fat ugly lesbians to market to.
“Advertising 101 — Sex sells”
Yes. But further than that.
It’s aspirational.. Like the classic “be somebody” from the Jerk.
use this product, and look like/ be like the model.
No matter what lingerie she put on, no way I’d hit it.
Now Laz on the other hand....
There is decades of marketing research and best practices that are wholly ignored by woke college grads who enter the workforce and have no respect for that accumulated wisdom. They just know better than their bigoted backwards elders and will show us all how we are supposed to be. If the business tanks, oh well, you have to break a few eggs and all that.
CEO’s, managers, and decision makers should be wary of hiring leftists as advancing their religion is more important than your business.
> they’re going back to basics and steering clear of ‘woke’ ad campaigns.
Until the next time...
LOL!!! Thanks!
Bud Light?
It doesn’t make a difference to me. I don’t buy anything from them.
“Did they finally figure out that women are not influenced by unattractive, angry dykes?”
Just throwing this out there... maybe Victoria’s secret was trying to influence the Mulvaney crowd.
But rather than a Rapinoe endorsement maybe there’s a business decision headed in another direction. Which could prove the existence of another corp getting “Mulvaney’d” in the process, but the VS consumer base isn’t at all like the AB.
This might be a windfall for the VS corp. Going forward is a bold toss of the dice should the attempt to seize the opportunity be acted upon. It would provide an interesting case study either way.
Victoria’s Secret needs to ditch the executives that make these absurd company-wide decisions based on social DEI nonsense, instead of responsibility and good stewardship of the brand.
I would have said "counterweight", but some people might consider that to be harsh.
Men don’t buy their wives and girlfriends sexy lingerie because they want them to look like trannies or angry dykes. Women don’t buy themselves sexy lingerie because they want to imagine themselves looking like a tranny or an angry dyke. Even morbidly obese women don’t want to fantasize about looking like morbidly obese women. If Victoria’s Secret wanted to abandon their core market and go after the emerging lesbian, tranny, and ghettopotamus market, they should have dropped the sexy lingerie and stocked up on flannel shirts, XXXXXX-wide jeans, and hiking boots. Or maybe just bought L.L. Bean.
Whoever in their executive suite came up with this idea should be kicked out the door and publicly humiliated. But they’ll probably be promoted for their “audacity.”
Sex with Megan Rapinoe is animal husbandry.
Victoria’s Secret The Tour 2023
Sex with Megan Rapinoe is animal cruelty......................
How are the Dodgers doing?
Women spend the money for Victoria secret because they want to imagine they will be as hot as the models (even if they aren’t)
They don’t want to imagine they are fat or a manish lesbian
