After the last 19 months of seeing the Russian Army in action on a battlefield they can literally drive their tank to from Russia, those ads look less impressive.
True. On that last, it was in the US-Vietnam War era, when the NVA had arguably some of the best light infantry in the world. Maybe the best, in large numbers.

The Chinese military had to deal with corruption. The NVA was battle hardened from the Virtnam War. So the Chinese had no chance when they went up against the NVA.
Funny you mention mercenaries. Russia kicked some wussy US mercenaries button that dared to try to interfere with issues not their own. I wonder how many US mercenary carcasses are lying on Ukranian soil.

Those weren’t mercenaries, they were Ukrainian army troops, some American born and you didn’t say what the result was for the battle they were wounded in.

Probably a 1000 times fewer US citizens fighting for Ukraine than the number of Wagner mercenaries who were killed just in the Bakhmut area.
And unlike the Russians, Ukrainian soldiers that are killed in combat have their remains treated with dignity.

True. Still today a Chinese general buys his position from the party. I read that the going rate is around $1,000,000 and more. This is the military we are supposed to fear.
They might try to scare us by building lots of gear. But remember it’s Chinese gear.
The PLA also has a troop problem. Most of its soldiers are “only children”. Boys raised without siblings. They call them “little princes”. If they spend a week in the field they need special counselling.
