a. Recently left my cell phone in a Faraday Bag for too long. When I removed it the phone was dead (battery ok), and had to be rebooted. Anyone know why this would happen?

b. Do Faraday bags damage cell phones?

Dead or did it just turn itself off since there were no signals?

Your phone lost comms with your carrier. The alphabets have programmed it to shut down when that happens?

Dead. Buttons, swiping, nothing worked, black screen of death. Had to reboot.

Because it was on while in the bag it was using more power searching to connect to a cell tower.

Was the battery drained, or did you still have a fair amount of battery life left?

It might have increased its transmit power since it couldn’t receive any tower signals, and so it killed its battery much quicker than normal.

Incidentally you can test the effectiveness of a Faraday bag by putting your phone into it and then calling it from another phone. If your phone rings then it’s still in touch with the local cell tower, which means the bag isn’t completely blocking signals.

It wasn’t the Faraday bag...most likely, the phone killed the battery by constantly searching for cell towers. You should put it in airplane mode when you put it in the bag.

Also, you don’t really need a Faraday bag. Just put your phone inside the microwave.

“Dead” could mean a couple of things. The cell phone could have shut down, making it inoperable. Or it could mean the call phone was still powered up but the software froze.

“call phone”? Sheesh. We really need a 60-second edit feature on FR.
