A middle school teacher on Long Island has been pulled from the classroom after handing out a controversial assignment to fifth-grade health students.
The assignment was given to students at Howard Mattlin Middle School on September 11th by teacher and track coach Mandy Bieder.
The students were asked who they would allow into a fallout shelter in the event of a nuclear attack and were given 10 options to chose from.
The choices included:
1.) A 16-year-old pregnant girl 2.) A police officer with multiple charges of brutality pending against him, he has his gun 3.) A 38-year-old retired prostitute 4.) A 75-year-old priest 5.) A 35-year-old sterile female doctor 6.) & 7.) A husband and wife. They refuse to be separated. He is a lawyer. She is an alcoholic. 8.) A 31-year-old homosexual architect 9.) A 50-year-old musician, previously addicted to cocaine 10.) A 28-year-old drifter with no apparent skills
In a letter to the families of the students on Tuesday, the principal said they have launched a full investigation into the "deeply inappropriate assignment" which includes the Central Office Administration and a substitute teacher will be provided until the investigation is complete.
"Our school, and our District as a whole, do not approve nor support assignments that are age-inappropriate, out of alignment with the curriculum, and fall outside of New York State standards," Principal Dr. Joseph Coladonato said in a statement. "This assignment violated all of these criteria, and has no place in our classrooms. We condemn this type of material in the strongest possible terms."

“But I wanted to find out who was MAGA”
Where’s, “The current resident of the White House who is a known pedophile and his coke-addled son” as one of my choices?
*SNORT*
1-7
It’s the BOAT GAME...They have pushed this since the 70”s...WHO WOULD YOU TOSS?? Moral relativism ..Only the best people in the boat, the shelter etc.......Not everybody deserves to live.....
No trans with a case of Bud Light?
I’m gonna need pictures of the women.
Today’s teachers seem to love bringing their own twisted fantasies into classrooms looking for affirmation. Yesterday’s teachers taught us things.
Yeah...there’s a good “Twilight Zone” that covers something like this. Show the kids that, and “Dr. Strangelove.”
I always drove the teacher wild because I would either find a way to let everybody in or I would refuse to let anybody in.
The second option was fun.
what about the communist, pedophile, public school teacher bent on indoctrinating children with a pro democrat agenda?
Nothing wrong with introducing dilemma ethics provided that students first have a strong ethical foundation. Hard choices and tradeoffs are a part of life and shouldn’t be ignored, but most ethical choices are not dilemmas.
Yeah, I want public school “health” teachers instructing impressionable adolescents on ethics.
It’s an odd list. But really I first encountered the trolley problem in 5th or 6th grade. And that was the morality version of it. My mom was very fond of the treats version (only pick one).
While I’m not sure about giving that list of people to choose from to jr high kids, morality quandaries are a good exercise for kids. These are the things where the rubber meets the road in life. Hard choices. Never to young to start getting practice.
I remember the lifeboat assignment in middle school.
The priest says, “Look, a ship! We’re saved!”
With that cast of characters and likely democrats:
🎶I drink alone with nobody else🎶 - George Thorogood
As a younger DoodleBob I once responded to that game, by proposing that we rotate everyone being on, and then attached to the side of the boat. That way nobody had to die.
My teacher wasn’t happy.
Now I know why…they wanted to compile a dossier of each kid’s morality.
I’m sorry but my 5th grade granddaughter wouldn’t know what prostitute is. Maybe I live under a rock or something. One thing I do know is that teacher needs to be fired.
But they never offer 9) any democrat, all of whom are responsible for the nuclear war and the current economic mess.
