Wearing This Item to Bed Is Worse Than Sleeping in a Toilet, Experts Say
New York Post ^ | Sep. 13, 2023 | Andrew Court

Researchers are urging people to stop wearing unclean socks to bed after discovering that they often contain the same bacteria found in cockroaches and their fecal droppings.

Experts obtained by Mattress Next Day polled 1,017 Brits about their sleeping habits and discovered that 18% wear socks while sleeping.

A sickening 70% of those sock-wearers don’t bother changing into a clean pair before bed, instead staying in the same pair that they’ve worn all day long.

At the end of the article they note that people who sleep naked likely contaminate their sheets from their flatulence. So I guess that people who sleep in the buff but wear socks really have something toxic going on.

Maybe they should take their socks off, and use one of them to...oh, never mind.

Even some famous Brits who could afford to do better had terrible teeth:

A lot of Brits can be “a tad untidy,” as the Brits themselves put it.

I see a lot of people questioning wearing socks to bed, as if everybody is just like them and those that do not act or live the same are freaks. I thought FR was mostly populated with people who think and understand all humans are different and have different lives and likes.

I never wore socks to bed even while stationed in North Dakota in the winter but I damaged my L4 while there then in 2010 I compressed it even more to the point where my feet always feel cold and I must wear socks to bed if I want to go to sleep.

If you just wear socks the cockroach turd only makes it to your ankle. Wearing hip waders it ends up right by your....

An old boss of mine used to say how when he retired he was going to get a job and a fishing store.

“A fishing store?”

“Yeah - I’ll be the guy measuring hip boots in the ladies department.”

Ain’t got no time for two showers a day. In fact my derm says that’s very bad for the skin.

I can’t sleep with socks on or anything on my legs.

Why would people wear anything dirty to bed?

Yuck!

I’m like you; I can’t sleep with socks on. Even when it’s cold, I will move the covers off my feet.

After I got sick from COVID, I started wearing slippers or thick Beach sandals in the house to cushion my feet. It helped with leg pain.

I used to prefer bare feet because even if the floor or carpet looked clean, my sensitive feet could pick up if it didn’t feel clean.

I’m surprised my kids survived. I was such a clean freak when they were young, it’s a miracle they developed an immune system.

My feet have developed a neuropathy where they feel on fire all the time. I need to sleep with my feet exposed. I haven’t
worn socks, day or night in years

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Give your neuropathy time and your feet will be completely dead, just like mine. The toes go first.
Pray that Your Neuropathy doesn’t get worse like adding: cramps like a Visegrip is suddenly clamped on to your foot, lightning bolts like Sciatica but just in the feet- not from the hip and running down the leg, cold that feels to You like they are in a bucket of ice water- and when someone else touches Your foot they will tell You that they feel normal body temperature to Them, they become so sensitive that just the pressure changes from taking a step is incredibly painful both on the step and then when You lift the foot up from the floor to take the next step, one or more toes curling up while it’s cramping and You can’t straighten them out unless You use Your fingers to do it, it becomes unsafe to drive because You can’t tell which pedal Your foot is on unless You look down to see whether it’s on the Accelerator, Brake or Clutch because if You’re looking down there then You are not looking out the windshield to watch traffic so You don’t cause an accident. Even though You are Mentally Fine to Drive it’s a “Foot feel” thing going on. We had just bought Our first New Vehicle when My Foot Neuropathy got really bad (48 miles when we bought it and most of that was from Our test drive.) We are around 50K on it now and I have driven it 5 or 6 times total because I chose to be courteous to the driving public and those drives were emergency or very necessary. I still maintain a DL and Insurance just incase.
I’ve had all of those things happen to My hands as well, plus what I call the Dropsies where You can’t hold on to anything from a coin to big (32 oz) plastic mug with a big handle and You have no control over it. Difficult to even turn a key in a lock or turn a doorknob, play ball with the children/grandchildren, change a diaper on the Baby, use silverware or pick up a glass of tea or water.
Then comes the doctor saying that you have Diabetic Neuropathy ( I am not Diabetic. My A1C is 5.1 , My DN was caused by chemical exposure when I was in the Water Treatment Plant) and you are prescribed Gabapentin, Lyrica and then they add in 1 or more types of Antidepressants to the list. When You complain about the pain that comes along with All of the stuff on The Fun List they will give You NSAID’s, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Diflucan and other stuff that doesn’t help with lowering Your Pain levels. At that point they MIGHT give You Oxycodone, Hydrocodone (those are the ones that You can get strung out on) and they put You on the “Opioid Overdose Potential” list and most of them will give a dose that is barely effective but will give You all the withdrawal problems and also they might just toss the often and very offensive/obnoxious statement that “You are just trying to get Opioid Medication for Your Recreational use and You are an Addict” bullshit !!! And as a Consolation Prize You get to keep NARCAN on hand to please the Insurance Company. Which could be useful if You happen upon a street junkie to save.
If You would like anymore fun and exciting information I will be happy to share it with You. There’s Others here on FR that are familiar with all of this fun stuff that You might be up against.
So PRAY that You’re lucky and this situation doesn’t get worse.
I’ve suffered with thyroid issues most of my adult life. As a man, I don’t get many of the side effects common in women such as brittle nails, but I do suffer from sometimes extreme inability to generate heat. My hands and feet are ALWAYS cold. I could work outside all day in the Florida sun, come inside, and my hands are like ice, per my wife.
I have to wear socks to bed, or I can’t sleep. My core body temperature just can’t keep me warm.
If socks are that toxic, imagine what a threat your carpeting is.
Imagine keeping dirty laundry for weeks, month, or years. All over your floors. Vacuum it now and then but never actually wash it. That’s carpeting.
Went to bed with his trousers on;
One shoe off, and the other shoe on,
Diddle, diddle, dumpling, my son John.
... you almost had it :-)
P.S. Never heard of it!”
Thanks! Now it will be decades before I forget it again.
