WASHINGTON – A remedial course designed to prepare potential Army recruits for basic training will become a permanent part of the service’s strategy in overcoming its sagging enlistment numbers, officials said.
The Army’s Future Soldier Preparatory Course was launched at Fort Jackson, S.C., in August 2022 as an experiment to help young Americans qualify physically and academically for military service. With higher obesity rates in America and fewer young people qualified to meet the Army’s entry standards, the service hoped the course would give those who don’t qualify much-needed time and training to get in shape. Service leaders said the yearlong test has worked.
The Army said it has had a 95% graduation rate from the prep course since the program started, a figure that service leaders called “an overwhelming level of success.” The results led the service to open the course at a second base — Fort Moore, Ga. — earlier this year. Officials said further expansion is possible.

The success of the course comes at a time when the Army has faced substantial obstacles in recruiting. The service is aiming to sign 65,000 new recruits in fiscal 2023, which ends Sept. 30, but officials have already said they will come up a few thousand soldiers short. All branches of the military have encountered recruiting challenges, largely because fewer than 25% of Americans between the ages of 17 and 24 can meet the requirements to join the military, according to Pentagon data.
Army Secretary Christine Wormuth said recently that the service will bring in more soldiers in 2023 than it did in 2022, when it enlisted about 45,000 new recruits against a goal of 60,000. Wormuth said the total for 2023 will be between 50,000 and 55,000 recruits.

“ASVAB waivers”
I don’t know where a 35 on the ASVAB sits on the IQ scale, but it has to be in the retarded range.
If they fail the prep training course, they will simply lower the standards enough for them to qualify.
““Be all you can be!” ..........yeah....sure.....”
They just cut off the rest of it: “ARMY! Be all you can be, which ain’t much but you can be it.”
“It will never be used to protect us. It will very likely be used against us.”
I am with you on that one. I didn’t post this as a veteran who is disgusted with the situation, I am posting this as a patriotic American who is pointing and poking fun at the left that thinks these are the nerds they will send against Americans.
“If they fail the prep training course, they will simply lower the standards enough for them to qualify.”
Yes, they will. They will also make it seem like they tried sooooo hard: “We set the standard of entry into the US armed forces at a qualifying 16 on the ASVAB, not a 15, but the higher standard of 16. We will also help those who need the help to meet this new rigid standard.”
Welcome to 1984.
The world needs ditch diggers, too. On another note, people overseas in the military should be amoungst the few that are allowed to vote by mail. But now that the commies have taken over the purge is well under way.

I lived a good life. I'll leave the

Same here mate!
Ture that, but I don't blame them, I blame the public school system. I think this is a great program and opportunity that can save a generation of youth brought up into the woke mindset.
We had mandatory PE and sports and could get a football game going at any park on a weekend. We hiked, played outside all day and never come home except for dinner.
This generation has seen none of that unless they live in the boonies. Sure they still play football on the weekends but only on their cellphones.
This is actually a good use of government for a change and I fully support it.
Pretty pathetic, but what choice do we have? We need a military and the last thing we need is to draft people who don't want to be there. I would not want to share a fox hole with a pink haired Antifa type who could not wipe their own butt.
These kids want to serve and this nation has failed in preparing them for that task. Now we must fix it.
I predict that students from this program will sale through basic's physical requirement so they can concentrate on the important stuff.
Not just the glowbull warming. What is even worse is the Services now cater to "Grrrll Power" and the LGBTQLMNOPLOL crowd and are basically only letting them join. They have even rejoiced when they said they completed kicking out the people who supported "radical ideas," meaning mostly white, middle class, males who were doing it out of patriotism.
The Services are now having to spend O&M money for the fake sex change surgeries and the incredibly expensive drugs needed to maintain the false concept of those destructive surgeries. This is taking away their ability to pay for bullets and gas as well as maintenance, which may be good because what is being done is the building of a military that hates the USA and anybody who is not mentally ill. They want people who will fire upon the citizens of the USA without question or qualm.
“This generation has seen none of that unless they live in the boonies.”
Sadly, I have usually lived in the boonies and never saw it there either.
Co-ed everything and loose women.
My third, of three platoons, had 3 E-4 squad leaders. They were awesome, and we shined during tac evaluations.
“ASVAB waivers”
“I don’t know where a 35 on the ASVAB sits on the IQ scale, but it has to be in the retarded range.”
I was a Navy/Navy Reserve recruiter for 16 years. 35 is not real bad. I have seen people with 19s get in (the lowest score the Navy would take). There would be very, very limited openings for those. I put two in who happened to be the nephews of a black chief who was a recruiting Zone Supervisor. I don’t think they were retarded, but they were functionally illiterate. I don’t know how they would even make it through boot camp. I don’t know if they made it or not. I do not recall ever hearing the term “ASVAB Waiver”. The level of ASVAB score that was accepted was directly proportional to goals being met. When things got tough, they lowered the ASVAB score requirements. 35 was usually the minimum, but it sometimes went up to...50?
Remedial ed for getting up to speed for basic training.
I think we have, indeed, hit the bottom of the abyss, we are now tumbling down the rock piles below the cliff.
Seasoned senior NCO’s..some WW2 vets..guided my young candy ass very nicely. They were richly rewarded!
