“ASVAB waivers”
“I don’t know where a 35 on the ASVAB sits on the IQ scale, but it has to be in the retarded range.”
I was a Navy/Navy Reserve recruiter for 16 years. 35 is not real bad. I have seen people with 19s get in (the lowest score the Navy would take). There would be very, very limited openings for those. I put two in who happened to be the nephews of a black chief who was a recruiting Zone Supervisor. I don’t think they were retarded, but they were functionally illiterate. I don’t know how they would even make it through boot camp. I don’t know if they made it or not. I do not recall ever hearing the term “ASVAB Waiver”. The level of ASVAB score that was accepted was directly proportional to goals being met. When things got tough, they lowered the ASVAB score requirements. 35 was usually the minimum, but it sometimes went up to...50?
I’m not sure if that’s an actual term. My SIL was home a few weeks ago. He’s in the 82nd. We were talking about some of the idiots he has run into. I forget the exact term he used, but he used the word waiver. I asked if that meant the soldier in question had a low ASVAB score. He said “yeah”. Recruiting and retention are way down in the 82nd. It’s very concerning to me. You don’t want to go into battle already two men down out of ten.
