The Flat Earther next door: These are the US states with highest share of conspiracy theorists, based on residents' internet search history... so do YOU live in a flat or round state? Alaskans were the most interested in 'Flat Earth' theories, Google searches show New Jersey natives entertained 'Flat Earth' claims least, per same search data
Earth's greatest minds have known our world is round since at least as far back as the day Pythagoras made his calculations in ancient Greece over 2,000 years ago.
But as you might have guessed from fighting with relatives and old friends on Facebook, as many as 10 percent of Americans still believe the earth is flat, according to survey data compiled in 2021.
If you're looking for a place offline to get away from conversations about 'Flat Earth' conspiracy theories (or maybe where to go to join your fellow true believers), a new analysis of Google searches across all 50 US states might help.
Die-hard 'Flat Earthers' may want to bundle up before relocating to Alaska, whose residents searched the most for information on the widely discredited theory.
And those looking to move on from the 'Flat Earth' debate entirely may want to find space in the densely populated state of New Jersey, which had the lowest interest in researching the topic online per 10,000 residents.
Find out below if you live in a 'Flat State' or a 'Round State.'

“I think we have a handful of Flat Eather’s here on FR as well.”
Think about it—out of thousands of Freepers there are supposedly a “handful” of Freepers who are Flat Earthers.
This is much ado about nothing imho—classic Deep State astroturfing.
Flat earthers are definitely real, and have been around a while. Asimov used to go to their conventions. He found them quite amusing. And given some of his reputation he probably found their women easily seduced.
Here is my rationale, FWIW. A flat-earther pretty much sees a flat earth every day of their life. It takes science, and history, to disabuse them of that nonsense. And, if they are still too stupid to change their mind, then their lives are not adversely affected, outside of being deemed a bunch of nincompoops.
SovCits, otoh, have to go out and search for their legal theory. What they see around them every day, is a system of people having to have driver’s licenses, for example. They have to rebel against what they see and experience. And, they have bad experiences when their car windows are busted out, and they are hauled off to jail, or have to pay heavy fines.
I think two-citizen parent birthers are related to SovCits, and there is no excuse for them ignoring the decision in Wong Kim Ark,or for their lying and being deceptive in their arguments.
That is my line of reasoning.

Ever wonder why section lines do dog-legs?
SE people that denigrate FE with maps they’d never use or espouse are nutz, and do nothing to further dialog. These SE people are a malignant cancer.
My calculations indicate you are off by a factor of 10, or 1 decimal point.
The apparent diameter would be 1.83 degrees.
Excellent point!
People could also consider that celestial navigation works.
It would be impossible for it to work on a flat earth.
This is like the UFO cults of the 1950s.
We now know that they were heavily infiltrated and financed by the Deep State to make sure the public perceived the topic as “kooky”.
There may be a few dupes out there—but without Deep State support the “Flat Earth” meme would fall flat on its face.
;-)
I have actually tied into a geodetic point ... don’t remember the name of the mountain .. long ago ..
but as a builder, I’ve never really had a need for anything
other then plane surveying
so as a rule I try to kiss it(keep it simple)
Over the years I have noticed a few things that seem to be beyond me. Brain teasers if you will.
90% can't break their indoctrination.
When you can't disprove them what else do you have except mockery?
/8 inches per mile squared
Here I am. Ridicule me to my face.
We have a flat earther here on FR.
I forget the handle, but she and I went round and round about it awhile ago.
I kept asking for a picture of the edge of the world since if the earth is flat it would be easy to get an image of it.
At least that's the furthest we can get on water.
Or is this your imagining?
but on a more serious note... go down to any ocean beach and watch the ships come up over the horizon.
