Grieving parents found the body of their 14-year-old adopted son hugging his dead dog after the Maui wildfires — then carried him around half a mile to a police station to be confirmed among the dead.
Schoolboy Keyiro Fuentes had been home alone enjoying his last day of summer break when the deadliest US wildfires in a century started overwhelming his neighborhood in Lahaina, his mother, Luz Vargas, told CBS News.
The mom was working five miles away at the time — and unable to get home when she saw the smoke, despite begging cops to let her through their barriers.
When she and the rest of her family managed to search their home two days later, they found Keyiro’s charred body wrapped around his dead dog, the sobbing mom told CBS.
“He was not as I expected, in ashes,” she said of the body thought to have been preserved by the extreme heat.
“God maintained him like this. So, we knew it was him,” she said of her adopted son.

It’s all too much. The suffering on Maui must be unbearable.
The police once again hold back parents trying to rescue their children. If you drive around them, what are they going to do to you? Arrest you for daring to disobey the police and rescue your children?

My God, what an awful thing to have to do.
I read somewhere that they weren't counting someone as dead unless the whole body is present. If that is true...oh, well, I won't say it but it wouldn't be nice.

there was another article that many who heeded traffic road CLOSURES got jammed up and died. Those who disobeyed the closures were able to get out of harms way and live. evil was around in so many ways in this fire situation: water, electrical, roads, no siren....

I know a person who claims to have been let into the Uvalde school a few months after that shooting happened and shown the classroom walls with blood still spattered on them.
I have no reason whatsoever not to believe that this person is telling the truth.
Makes. My. Blood. Boil.
Just like that shooting in Texas where those cowards did nothing but let those children die.
That is heartbreaking. I’m keeping these people in my prayers.

Ya, after reading the story I checked comments to see if anybody else made the connection to Robb elementary school. You were first.
“To serve and protect” is a proven false pretense.
“Public Servants” are proven operating outside of good faith of the public.
Refusing local civilian orders to lend aid in crises, all proof.
Civilian controlled military, community controlled police are fantasies.
