Plant-based meat substitute maker Beyond Meat said its revenue plunged 30.5% in the second quarter as consumer demand for its burgers, sausages and other products fell despite price cuts.
The El Segundo, California-based company lowered its full-year revenue forecast as a result. Beyond Meat now expects revenue between $360 million and $380 million for the year. That’s down from the $375 million to $415 million it forecast at the end of the first quarter.
Beyond Meat’s shares fell 10% in after-hours trading Monday.
In a conference call with investors, Beyond Meat President and CEO Ethan Brown said the company faced tough comparisons to the second quarter of 2022, when a new beef jerky product generated sales and restaurants were reopening and placing big orders. …

Yep, eggplant too. I’ve done veggie enchiladas more than once - filled with some nice sauteed squash, onion, and peppers as well as rice and beans.

Hamburger is still four ninety nine a pound here so still half as expensive as Beyond Meat.
As with electric cars, fake meat is suffering from consumer revolt. This makes me optimistic that central bank digital currency will be a nonstarter.

I do not substitute eggplant for meat.
When I want to eat eggplant I eat eggplant,
when I want to eat meat I eat meat.
Right now if I felt like eating a Philly cheesesteak,
I would undertake the 2 hour drive to the Yellow Submarine
in Maple Shade, New Jersey. But that is way too long a drive
to make just for lunch. Especially since I've got plenty
of turkey, pepperoni and ham in the fridge.

In the past I've made wraps or burritos using Italian roasted peppers, onions,
eggplant, and grated Monterey jack cheese.
Could use mozzarella if no jack is available.
