Smoking is back and it’s still cool (and deadly)
The Guardian ^ | July 2, 2023 | Eva Weisman

Today I became nostalgic for a smell. You wake up on top of the covers in your underwear, and through the gloaming of your bedroom, through the smug pint of water, through the angst and exhaustion and joy and regret that comes from five hours in a nightclub and two hours on the wrong bus home, there is some bitter relief in the smell of smoke on your hair. That smell! Like barbecued teenagers and pepper and beer, almost lovely, pleasantly vile, a kind of lovebite memory, bruised on the throat in passion. That smell. It all seems quite mad now, the idea that people smoked, not just inside, but underground, in windowless rooms. Though I suppose so much seems mad to me about young fun still: come out, drink until you’re sick, it’ll be a laugh! …

When I read the news that smoking was coming back, I thought: that smell. Then I thought: of course. The wellness era is truly at its end, celery water pooling under the door, hot yoga cooled down to a single tepid pilate. In a recent exchange with another artist, David Hockney wrote, “I too am BORED with WELLNESS. The concept seems ridiculous and too bossy for me, I’m still smoking, and ENJOYING it ENORMOUSLY.” His cigarette set off a fire alarm at the launch of his latest exhibition…

But the problem with our major shift away from smoking was, while they could persuasively prove that it killed people, they were unable to convince anyone that cigarettes were not cool. This fact, I’m afraid, has come back to bite us.

Seeing a beautiful woman with a smoldering butt in her mouth is like seeing a million dollar house with a hundred thousand dollars of landscaping with a rusty burn barrel stinking up the place with smoke.

Yeah. And seeing a beautiful woman with tattoos is like seeing that million dollar home tagged with graffiti like a blank wall in a ghetto.

yeah, it’s ridiculous- they should be free to smoke outdoors- at the very least- but also indoors in designated areas- people like to go out and socialize with drink and smoke- but liberals are just too perpetually angry to allow anyone to actually enjoy themselves

Canadian cigarettes...yum! Good old Virginia tobacco without the additives. When I flew in the ‘80s I’d buy a pack of Export A greens at the airport. Dunhill reds, too.

Now 30+ years cigarette-free.

The absolute BEST sign I ever have seen (beside the door to a bar in rural Kern County, CA AFTER smoking was outlawed in CA):

“WE SMOKE!
IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT,
DON’T COME IN!”

My sentiments exactly!

Business owners should decide, not REMF bureaucrats!

The stench of stale cigarette smoke on my clothing and hair was hardly what I would ever have called nostalgic.

I hope smoking comes roaring back…

Good God, why? Why would you want more people to slowly poison themselves? More people with emphysema, spending their final days coughing up blood?

Cigarettes if anything were a tool of the Deep State, and Big Tobacco was sheltered for years by politicians as they lied and pushed poison on people. Cigarette companies were no better than Pfizer or Purdue Pharma.

Watch The Insider; Big Tobacco’s control of the mainstream media, entertainment, and government was a test run for the COVID scam and jab lies.

Anybody can quit smoking.

It takes a real man to face cancer.

Preach it.

The argument upthread about smoking laws and gun control laws is ridiculous.

When you carry, the gun stays on your person unless you choose to take it out and use it. And even then it affects only the person you are targetting.

Cigarette smoke does not stay put but infiltrates every bit of air space it’s in, and it most certainly does affect others.

Smike is a known irritatnt, be it cigarette or campfire smoke or anything else that’s burning and not everyone can tolerate it.

Well, we only have about 7 years left before the planet burns up so everyone might as well have all the wine, women, and song (and smokes) they want.

While you are at it, take out a 30-year house and 10-year car loan since you will not have to pay for it. No one needs to prepare for the future.

They didn’t think this “we all are gonna die” narrative through too well did they? Now, no one cares!

There are places where smoking is banned at beaches and parks.

I can see that simply for the cigarette butt littler aspect.

Far too many smokers treat the wolrd as if it their own personal ash tray.

I swear I smell more marijuana smoke now on the streets and in public (open) spaces than I ever smelled tobacco smoke as a kid.

I think you’re on to something. I smell weed in almost every major city. The Strip in Las Vegas used to be a pleasant place for a walk where you’d see some weird stuff, but it was relatively family friendly. Now it smells like weed; disgusting.

If you consider the source, “Eva Weismann”, writing for The Guardian, this is part of larger Deep State play to make ubiquitous weed smoking the norm by renormalizing cigarettes.

During the WWII era, 90% of the population smoked cigarettes. Most American Presidents smoke up until the 70s when tobacco ads wer outlawed on tv.

As long as I have a place to go in an establishment where there isn’t smoking, I couldn’t care less. Personally, I hate the smell (My olfactory senses are super sensitive) and almost all of my friends smoke, save maybe two of them. However, every now and again, I get a customer that smells like the cigarettes my grandmother used to smoke - Virginia Slims Ultra-Light Regular. That takes me back.

One thing to notice, the Globohomo Regime has all but outlawed tobacco, but has legalized or is going to legalize all hard drugs “for our health”.

Globohomo does push marijuana as had as it suppresses cigarettes.

Consider, tobacco: increases concentration, calms people down, suppresses appetite

dope: reduces attention span, increases paranoia, promotes gluttony

The Regime wants young people to be obese, paranoid, depressed, lonely, and satiated on fast food, dope, porn and video games

The last thing the Regime wants in young people meeting together, chain smoking cigarettes and plotting Revolution.

‘A good friend had business in Denver this past weekend and was, “shocked to find the whole city smelled like skunk weed”.’

The same is true in San Francisco. I can’t take a 10 minute walk anywhere in town without being confronted with the cannabis stench.

As to the articles suggestions of a cigarette comeback, I’ve seen no evidence whatsoever of that in California. The kids and young adults may be into nicotine vapes, but not cigs. The author writes from England, though, and the situation may be different there.
