I Think Faster Than Light Travel is Possible. Here's Why.
YouTube ^ | April 8, 2023 | Sabine Hossenfelder

If you've been following my channel for a really long time, you might remember that some years ago I made a video about whether faster-than-light travel is possible. I was trying to explain why the arguments saying it's impossible are inconclusive and we shouldn't throw out the possibility too quickly, but I'm afraid I didn't make my case very well. This video is a second attempt. Hopefully this time it'll come across more clearly!

I thought I was understanding it up to “Higgs-condensate.” She is far smarter than me so I can’t comment on faster than light travel.

I like her intellectual sense of humor.

So the “science is settled”? Eh, Dr. Fauci?

Not at all. Just the question about energy. Math is Math. There is a tremendous energy requirement to accelerate to the speed of light. Short of dilithium crystals and anti-matter, of course. And we haven’t shown the math on G-forces. Math is hard.

Did math explain quantum entanglement before 1935 and Einstein's paper with Podolsky and Rosen?

Imagine stepping back in time and trying to explain to a steam locomotive design engineer that a person will be able to travel between New York and LA in 6 hours.

He will say impossible and show you the schematics and mathematics for his steam engine.

The biggest problem for scientists is arrogance (re: their own achievements) and fear of the unknown.

We have barely begun to scratch the surface of what is possible.

Math is hard? *snicker*

If I misunderstood your post forgive me.

There is a tremendous energy requirement to accelerate to the speed of light.

Very true.

You should watch the video. She explains that.

She explained that in an indirect manner. The mass of the object must be zero; therefore, the traveler is pure energy.

Math is hard.

The reason I snickered at that comment is not because it isn't true. God knows it is most certainly true.

I think you will agree that though math is hard, it is as beautiful as art (maybe even more so).

I always loved something one of my professors used have written on his blackboard, "Math is the language of God."

I don’t really know much about math or physics either. But I definitely subscribe to the possibility of FTL. Just have to change your way of looking at the problem. It’s not a matter of how fast you’re getting to where you’re going from where you’re at. Because that would involve G forces. It’s more a matter of changing where you’re going, to where you’re at. Einsteins idea that “matter tells spacetime how to curve, and curved spacetime tells matter how to move”. Just need to untangle that and we’ll be good to go!

Fold space to travel... Such a Frank Herbert Idea. Have fun storming the castle!

Did you know that the vacuum in the old radio tubes is better than the vacuum of space? Space is actually full of junk.

What is wrong with Freepers nowadays?

Each has a direct telephone link to God, and is more special than the next.

Einstein said it was. Just have to cheat and condense space. Then you’re still traveling just under the speed of light, but through more space. Only problem... how do you condense space?

Heheh. Ain’t that the truth? And their opinions are divine handiwork needing no explanation.

When I said math is hard, I meant it is a hard reality. Hard to get around math. Engineers rely on hard facts, and math. You can have your own opinions, but hard math doesn’t change when faced with opinions.

“doesn’t understand math or physics”

An expert in math or physics in the 1700s would be totally confused today.

An expert in math or physics today will be totally confused three hundred years from now.

The “laws” of physics were made to be broken.

I know nothing about physics, but I do know there are instances in the Bible where people were instantly transported from one place to another, and even from Heaven and back, so I know time travel, if that’s what you’d call it, is possible. But whether we’ll ever achieve it outside of God experiences, I have no idea.

And just how do you reach the conclusion that she doesn't submit her theories for peer review? Because YOU haven't seen them?

I actually did a search for papers by her using different academic search tools. Nothing even close to this topic came up. If she has submitted a paper on this for peer review she's gone to great lengths to keep it a secret, while at the same time publishing a YouTube video on it. So yeah, take that for what its worth.

I did browse through some of what she has published and she does seem to like to push the boundaries of sensationalist, "alternate science," wishful thinking. If she keeps going the History Channel may just give her a seat next to Giorgio.
