Does USA have the moral authority to be the "Leader of the Free World?"

Posted on 07/17/2023 9:28:58 AM PDT by MNDude

I see many Republican candidates proudly exclaim the importance of USA being the strong leader of the free world.

I'm curious what that means for today, and why that is important. What values is USA promoting in other countries in the world. Which examples of successes do we have to show from this role as a leader in the past 20 years.

Maybe I'm too ignorant about all the many nuances of the international scene. Can someone explain what this means and why it is important?

“Trump is no different. Claims the U.S. can end the war in Ukraine by a mere U.S. Presidential decision. Some Conservatives should quit being like the Left, hypocrites when it comes to “American leadership”.”

Sadly I agree. My guess is he will be able to do that successfully also, but unfortunately that will continue the pattern that USA is needed everywhere.

If USA stopped sending money to the area, the war would end just as fast.

"They changed it from “free world” to the “rules based order” since America and Western countries are no longer free."

I noticed that shift as well.

I think, as regards recent American History, between WW II and the start of the Korean War, we were the “Good Guys.”

When the PTB did not allow the US and South Korea to prevail, the downhill slide began.

I am here to tell you that the Communist laden US State Department has worked against US and Western interests since BEFORE WW II, but during Korea and certainly during the Vietnam disaster they were working 24/7 AGAINST us!

Of course, since then the US State Department has had a great deal of help. Witness Iraq and Afghanistan.

And, with LIEberal/Socialist/Marxist/Fascist/Communist Demcrats in charge, what do you expect?

No we don’t. This regime is immoral and has no right to lead anyone.

Much of the free world isn’t free anymore. Rule by LGBT’s, anti-white racists, and socialists. Canada is a good example.

Trump re-instating American energy independence would do wonders to undermine Russia’s ability to make war with little consequences.

“Much of the free world isn’t free anymore.”

Including the US since at least the Civil War and probably back to the Whiskey Rebellion.

The illegal illegitimate fraudulent corrupt lying thieving treasonous Biden administration seems to think that they have the moral authority to coerce pressure and force IMMORALITY upon everyone everywhere.

I believe God is withholding judgement due to the church being intermingled with the wicked.

Remove the human shield ala rapture and then it's on like donkey kong.

We aren’t even a part of whatever “free world” exists anymore.

What it boils down to is that the United States Navy and Air Force, and the Army and Marines, enforce free passage for all nations on the high seas. Of course, there is more, but IMHO, that's the heart of it. We created a Pax Americana, which after WW II dismantled the British Empire, among others, and allowed almost universal free trade.

Yep, that accounts for most of it. The "more" that you mentioned is an important part, though - how this led up to the U.S. being the leader of the "West" during the Cold War, preventing the Soviets and their expanding Warsaw Pact from encroaching further. Free world vs. Communist world... that's what the phrase really references.

When you hear the "Leader of the Free World" stuff mentioned these days, it's usually with a tinge of mockery from the Brits... or as an attempt to revive Cold War sentiments (mostly anti-Russian) by the neocons.

If the term ever had any real meaning, it faded after the Berlin Wall fell.
