The mother of a Seattle liquor store robber who was shot and killed by cops has demanded an apology after a mock tomb stone for her son was spotted in a precinct break room.
Damarius Butts, 19, was killed while fleeing a robbery at a downtown convenience store on April 20, 2017. He tried to steal beer, before officers chased him and exchanged gunfire.
But now, a video has captured a glimpse of a small gray mock tombstone on the shelf in the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct break room, with his name inscribed on it and the date he was killed.
The tombstone for Butts bore a clenched black fist. On the night of his death, he suffered 11 gunshot wounds and bled to death as officers waited outside.
Following an inquest in the aftermath, the police department cleared the officers and found the shooting justified.
Ann Butts is now demanding the police force apologize for their mock effigy.
The police department, however, have said they have 'no reason to believe it was placed as a 'trophy' or with any pejorative intent.'
Butts said, through her attorney La Rond Baker: 'I can't express how hurtful it was to learn that SPD endorsed joking about the killing of my son by displaying a fake tombstone with his name on it.

Okay I have one thing to say about this.
Who ever these cops are? They are either FReeprs or lurkers but either way they come to this site.
That fake tombstone was their way of saying "happy ending"
What happened to just putting a notch in your gun?
That way no one knows exactly which notch was their relative.
His epitaph should read “Good Riddance”
“Damarius Butts”
There’s got to be a great limerick for dear old Damarius just waiting to be discovered.
He was such a nice boy!
You want to bet this was not the first time these cops had had a run in with Mr Butts? Oh I’m sure he was well known to that whole police department.
Why else was him mother watching this clip years later?
This robbery/shooting happened in 2017. Mama still thinks her boy din du nuffin
A teen named Damarius Butts
Robbed a store and got shot in the guts.
The coppers were glad,
But his mom got all mad.
In fact, she’s about to go nuts.
Fortunately she didn’t see the epitaph on the fake tombstone because it was in miniscule print:
Here lies Damarius Butts
He had a taste for liquor;
So he stole a case,
Then quickened his pace;
But the bullet, it was quicker.
I tried my hand at that (see post 8)
It’s limerick time.
The key phrase is “exchanged gunfire”
The thief thought stealing beer was important enough to open fire on police chasing him.
I can see how mom raised this creature. The mother is a creature.
he suffered 11 gunshot wounds and bled to death
A fitting end. Life of crime leads to dead end.
In the ghetto ~
Damarius was “tough” and
Bragged cops were bluffin
With liquor Butts fled
Was gunned down ‘til dead
His mom said “he didndunuffin!”
Mark
Stealing malt liquor was his game.
He shot at the cops.
More caps they did pops.
Do you think his mother felt shame?
There was a young man named Damarius
Whose successes at crime were nefarious
He ate twenty slugs
Now he's sleeping with bugs
And an epitaph that is hilarious.
The story does note that it was the BLM that made the tombstone, not the police.
That nefarious thing was pretty good.
Its been awhile since we had an interesting topic thread for limericks. :)
I love them!
Can any of you make an Haiku about this?
Hard to believe that is routine procedure, filming in the Break Room.
I think the precinct in question was the same one seized by Black Lives Mattter during the Seattle George Floyd riots and the weeks long occupation of the Seattle Capitol Hill neighborhood.
Who made the decision to search for body cam video of the tombstone?
Until proved otherwise, this entire episode looks manufactured and staged to me.
