A handful of bold women are embracing what millions of others have struggled to keep secret.
Lipstick is a must for Annalisa Hackleman. A bold red is her go-to, but some mornings she’ll swipe on a soft rose or even a rich purple. She plays around with her hair color, too—right now her long locks and blunt-cut bangs are a bright teal and lavender ombré. Still, Hackleman says her beauty routine is kind of basic: She washes her face, puts on mascara and maybe winged eyeliner, lipstick of course, and then every once in a while, she’ll rub a little balm in her beard.
“I like to feel ready to leave the house,” she says. “I want to look good.”

Beat me to it.
When I was a freshman at U of Chicago, there was a freshman woman in my dorm who had a bad cash of massive black facial hair. MANY joked about her. She was clearly getting electrolysis during the year. She seemed to be bright with a good personality. However, she transferred to Harvard after that first year, perhaps seeking a fresh start. I wouldn’t wish that kind of ailment on any woman.
Dittos on the “unsee” part. It must be the measure of maturity when a young man could raise a mustache that was better and fuller than his mother’s.
Fun times.
PCOS encourages this, unfortunately.
There are ways to help address this, naturally and medically.
An older woman I work with definitely has a beard - proper woman, too. That happens when hormones are off, and typically menopause causes some kind of facial hair growth.
I’d get that sh¡t lasered off, man. No way. I’m already too self-conscious as it is.
Exactly.
Go into any nursing home. You will see there are a lot of women whose hormones get out of whack as they get older. It’s normal there. (Lots of razors in action!)
There are plenty of “normal” women with hormonal imbalances. The use of hormones in food production just adds to the problem. Diet has a LOT to do with this stuff.
Of course, this assumes they are not mixing and matching their hormones artificially.
This must be brutal for young women who have to deal with this. “Bearded ladies” will always be seen as odd. I guess you can embrace “what you are” but the amount of ridicule and teasing must be horrible. (Just read the comments here.)
um, guilty?
Alvin Lee and Tens Years After saw the future
For example, as a man my beard looks normal on me and my wife likes it. But I still need to trim it regularly and shave parts of my neck and face, or the real "what I am" would look scraggly. Same with other grooming and hygiene things I and everybody else does daily.
Otherwise the real what we are would look and smell really really bad --- like Occupy Wall Street. LOL
“Are they even allowed to have freak shows anymore?”
They re-grouped into major political parties.
“…Goonie, Goo-Goo..”
Super Hot!
Something Wicked This Way Comes had an interesting take on it.
No.
Social “norms” are always changing.
There isn’t much we can do about that.
The part about this story that is missing is the impact of diet on these conditions. Embracing obesity is a dangerous course to take. The costs of that on society are going to be enormous in 10-15 years.
And the fact is that even though the magazines and Tick Tok videos are pushing this acceptance...the reality is that most of society “rejects” it. That is not going to change anytime soon. It’s important to remember the adage about news: Its “man bites dog”. This stuff is published because its doesn’t adhere to the “norms.”
Just because it’s in a publication doesn’t mean that it’s a cultural norm. Not for one second.
The one in the middle is a man, baby!
There are some women who have facial hair, or who go bald. I agree that they should not be made to feel like freaks. All of us have our body issues. But to “celebrate” it? The word “celebrate” needs to be banned from the English language. Way too many people are “celebrating” things that should not be celebrated.
They purveyors of absurdity want us to publicly acknowledge absurd falsehood as truth, even though we all know it's false. That's how they humiliate, demoralize, mentally control populations.
2+2 doesn't equal 5, Winston. 2+2 equals whatever we say it equals ... and always did.
