f there is any substance to a campaign to suppress the box office, the film’s distributors have the potential for a humongous lawsuit, probably involving triple damages.
We have received multiple emails from people saying that theaters are telling patrons that air-conditioning is broken in the auditoriums showing the hit movie Sound of Freedom, and offering another movie or a refund. Many people fear a campaign is underway to suppress the box office totals for the film, which exposes the sex trafficking of children. The box office success of SoF is particularly embarrassing for Disney, whose ridiculously expensive Indiana Jones movie is performing poorly and unlikely to earn a profit, because Disney reportedly sat on the rights to distribute Sound of Freedom for five years, only to relinquish the rights and see it become a smash hit. Unhappy shareholders may well question the wisdom of retaining current management if SoF becomes a mega-hit based on word of mouth.
I was skeptical that theater managers would deliberately turn away business, especially with a potential blockbuster on their hands. Summer blockbusters are how most theatres are able to stay in business. And theatre managers’ jobs depend on filling seats and staying out of the red.
As one emailer wrote, this is not necessarily a conspiracy:
FYI, I don’t habitually wear a tinfoil hat. Maybe (I dunno) a/c failures are random and common; so managers rationally put the expected-low-boxoffice film in the crippled room.
But reports continue to proliferate of mysterious outages of air-conditioning in just one screen at multiplexes. The video below purports to compile stories of this happening all across the country: [video at link, make sure you watch after the video ends to see comments made by dozens of people in different places had no AC either]

Progressives are very immature simple creatures.
It could be individual employees causing problems. It’s not happening to every theater.
The Pedos, Homos and Trannies are going to fight to keep their supply of fresh flesh coming.
This may be the least of it.
Folks ever hear of something called box office fraud?
If folks are still buying tickets at the cinema, actual sales might even be higher than the 40 mil estimates I’ve seen.
Trust but verify.
Contractual obligtion.
Easier to turn down the sound, shut off the AC, refund the tickets.
This isn’t about money.
Contractual obligation...
Silly.
They don’t even have to screen it.
If they theater management doesn’t like the movie for its politics. Don’t show it or say the projector for it broke.
No need to ruin a person’s movie experience or treat a customer poorly.
Except for that pesky little thing called a contract.
When they inked the deals, they likely thought this would be a dog.
This is silly and makes no sense.
How would this depress turnout as you wouldn’t know the AC is off until after you bought the ticket?
What, people demanding refunds after the movie starts? No way a theater manager would put up with that, and the AC is not controlled by the corporate office.
Also, as someone else pointed out, if the theatre companies wanted to suppress it, they just wouldn’t show the movie, not go through these kind of shenanigan’s.
Who said they need to? Sounds like there are bad staffers/managers who just want to.
I see lefties virtue-hating normals all the time.
You don’t think they would intentionally treat conservative customers badly?
The beyotches don’t seem to rest at all, do they?
These theaters are private companies. We can assume they like the money from ticket sales.
Besides that, if they didn’t want to show the movie for woke-management reasons, they could just claim “there’s no demand” and not show them.
They don’t need to torture movie-goers with an elaborate plot to turn off the AC
No. Who comes up with these stupid ideas? Really why would a theater cut their own revenue to mess with a movie? If they didn’t want it to make money they would just not show it. Really people, stop being so desperate to crawl on crosses. It’s summer, AC breaks sometimes.
Would they deliberately turn away profitable business? Why yes, they would, if they have received threats or bribes.
Some businesses are not in business to make money. Their purpose is to spread the party line. If they lose money, rich leftists make up the difference.
They don’t have a contractual obligation. It’s a small distributor, so it didn’t come in as part of a conditional contract with some other movie. They signed on to show that movie that movie only, if they didn’t want to they wouldn’t have.
I call BS on this whole article.
I believe there is suppression in play but it is probably pressure from Hollywood moguls to divert money into their crappy movies and away from Angel Films.
What a lot of people don’t realize is Hollywood has blackmailed the cinemas for a long time to their advantage. For example, they demand their movies show on Friday and Saturday nights against any and all indie films. They also demand cinemas show lesser Hollywood films if the cinemas wants access to blockbuster films.
The Hollywood motion picture industry is completely rigged and corrupt.
Movie moguls should be in prison for their ruthless business tactics.
Yes!
