Are theatres turning off air-conditioning to suppress the box office for Sound of Freedom?
American Thinker ^ | 11 Jol, 2023 | Thomas Lifson

f there is any substance to a campaign to suppress the box office, the film’s distributors have the potential for a humongous lawsuit, probably involving triple damages.

We have received multiple emails from people saying that theaters are telling patrons that air-conditioning is broken in the auditoriums showing the hit movie Sound of Freedom, and offering another movie or a refund. Many people fear a campaign is underway to suppress the box office totals for the film, which exposes the sex trafficking of children. The box office success of SoF is particularly embarrassing for Disney, whose ridiculously expensive Indiana Jones movie is performing poorly and unlikely to earn a profit, because Disney reportedly sat on the rights to distribute Sound of Freedom for five years, only to relinquish the rights and see it become a smash hit. Unhappy shareholders may well question the wisdom of retaining current management if SoF becomes a mega-hit based on word of mouth.

I was skeptical that theater managers would deliberately turn away business, especially with a potential blockbuster on their hands. Summer blockbusters are how most theatres are able to stay in business. And theatre managers’ jobs depend on filling seats and staying out of the red.

As one emailer wrote, this is not necessarily a conspiracy:

FYI, I don’t habitually wear a tinfoil hat. Maybe (I dunno) a/c failures are random and common; so managers rationally put the expected-low-boxoffice film in the crippled room.

But reports continue to proliferate of mysterious outages of air-conditioning in just one screen at multiplexes. The video below purports to compile stories of this happening all across the country: [video at link, make sure you watch after the video ends to see comments made by dozens of people in different places had no AC either]

Who says it has to be a grand corporate plan, rather than a childish ad hoc “by any means necessary” by a bunch of snowflake employees/managers?

The left is getting accustomed to do whatever they want with the assurance that consequences will never happen.

why did Fox bankroll it?

\

They did not.

It was Angel and crowd source funded,,,

you could have googled this like I did ,

but instead you just floated the turd. Why ?

/

Why did Disney sell it to a distributor?

/
Disney sat on it for years,

and has so much groomer blood flowing through their veins that to continue to sit on it would just illustrate their groomerness more so they finally ditched it and sold it.

/

Why did theaters even ..

\

Desperate for revenue is my guess.

Besides, sell tickets then make sure the viewers were so miserable they wouldn’t stay to the end for the final gut punch message of the reality of the USA being the number one customer of child porn and sex slavery, two birds with one stone.

Im not convinced it was corporate action, more than likely individual groomer employees action imho.

/\

I’d rather be silly than blind.

Ymmv.

Fox was the distributer, not the funder.

Paul ryan will chase any dollar dragged by his trailer imho..

OK I got that one wrong, Fox agreed to distribute. then they got bought. Yes the movie say for years, again happens ALL THE TIME. Is Batgirl being suppressed?

Actually you are blind. You addiction to being persecuted has blinded you to the basic reality of the movie industry and how suppression ACTUALLY WORKS.

Here’s 75 unreleased movies by the American movie industry over the years:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Unreleased_American_films

Are the all being suppressed? No of course not. And neither is Sound of Freedom. IT’S RELEASED. That’s the exact opposite of suppressed. Anybody that thinks a movie on 3000 screens is suppressed is blind and dumb.

The movie opened in over 2600 theaters and is now playing in over 2850 theaters.

See my other posts, these claims are just ludicrous in terms of some grand conspiracy.

With nearly 3000 theaters showing the movie what? 4 or 5 times a day on average, that is 12,000 to 15,000 showings PER DAY, Of course there are going to be glitches in individual theaters with that many viewings for ANY movie.

Is it possible some individual rogue employee at a theater her or there did something trying to sabotage a viewing? Possible, but some corporate wide conspiracy? Be real.

What far more likely happened is folks who went to see this movie were far more likely to claim the issues were some sort of conspiracy, complain on social media, and the right wing media outlets latched onto it, and now even more people are feeding it should anything remotely go wrong during their viewing.

I did the math earlier here in another post, if you assume those 20 theaters all had their hvac problems on its biggest per screen day, and it took the theater out of action all day, the revenue affect would have been < 110k.

Folks need to relax. 12000 to 15000 screenings a day, of course there are going to be some that have problems.

Assuming 100 reported problems, hell even 1000 reported problems that’s a failure rate of 12000 to 15,000 x 7 days (july 4th through july 10th). a 1 in 84 to 1 in 105 screenings and that would assume all 1000 reported problems were in separate screenings.

100 reported problems would be 1 in 840 to 1 in 1050 screenings, again, assuming every problem reported was in separate screenings.

Apparently AMC has two tactics to make SoF undesirable. They have shut off the the A/C in the theater showing the movie and in some cases turned the audio levels down so low that sound from adjacent theaters audibly covers up the SoF audio. On hearing of this behavior, my wife is planning to drop her recurring subscription to the AMC movie "club". She signed up when Top Gun Maverick was playing. The new Mission Impossible movie opens tomorrow.

It’s summer, AC breaks sometimes.

If the whole building went down, I could accept that excuse. This is targeted to the room screening SoF. The other rooms, lobby and restroom A/C are working fine. It's not an isolated case. It is happening across the country to the SoF screening room. It's not an accident.

I went and saw this movie last Friday. It was a 1 PM showing but it was at the Majestic theater not the AMC. It was supposed to be showing at the AMC as well but that’s across town in the mall. I did not want to go there. This is a comfortable theater and they’ve always shown conservative films. I got there a little early. I was by myself, and I had to sit through the previews, which were so loud that my ears hurt. I had to cover them and try to block out the sound. I actually thought that if the movie was that loud I couldn’t do it. It hurt too bad. My ears hurt for a day afterwards. But this is another way that they can spoil someone’s experience. It’s truly awful. Thankfully the sound went down when the movie came on. But I was about to ask for my money back.
I found the movie excellent but the previews torture.

But each room tends to be on their own system. You’ve got a bunch of big rooms single systeming that would be dumb. Heck just look at an office building, I know of 4 AC handlers in my office, not counting the computer labs, luckily only 1 ever breaks at a time. And I already said 3 weeks ago it happened at my local theater, theater 6 AC crapped out, not the theater I went luckily. I’m sure it happens all over. But people watching a Fast and Furious movie aren’t addicted to believing they’re persecuted so they don’t go on the internet and say people are trying to suppress F&F (which, honestly, is too bad, those are dumb movies that totally deserve to be suppressed).

It is an accident. Because doing on purpose fails the dumb brilliant test. That’s how I discount most conspiracies. They’d have to be brilliant to co-ordinate this simultaneous mucking about the ACs for one movie. And complete idiots to think that would actually suppress a movie that if they actually wanted to suppress wouldn’t even be in those theaters.

Question....
A real estate tycoon financed the rescue effort.
Was the financier Donald J. Trump?
We know that Trump does not like to stand out and personally take credit.

/-)

You just love that shovel don’t you.

Ok, fine, dig that hole deeper.

That’s ok

Jesus still loves you

( even if you do defend groomers, pedosexuals and the child sex slave industry behind the attacks on this film. You can repent and accept Him as saviour anytime before death. )

No. I’m right. We can tell because you won’t even try to answer the obvious questions:
If they wanted to suppress it how was it even made?
If they wanted to suppress it how did it get sold to a distributor?
If they wanted to suppress it how is it even in theaters?

I’m not defending anybody. I am standing up for LOGIC and THINKING and using your head for something other than a hat rack. You are wrong. PERIOD.You are blind. I have led you to the simple logical thoughts that will show that no the movie is not being suppressed. But you flee in terror from thinking. I don’t need the prayers of a dumb guy.

How would someone buying a ticket for this movie, then being offered another movie ticket or a refund, for any reason, suppress the box office for this movie?

I am not sure that this is a corporate AMC thing. It may be that the theater business attracts leftists that try to impose their beliefs on others.

Yes, reducing the box office numbers is probably a goal. Why do they not carry the movie? I don't know the industry. Maybe they have a list from corporate HQ and they just disagree at the individual theater level.

If they wanted to suppress it how was it even made?

\/

’ they’ didn’t make it

Angel did. Duh.
//

If they wanted to suppress it how did it get sold to a distributor?

So many strawmen.

\/

‘They’ had no say in who bought sold.

If they could have they would have

If they wanted to suppress it how is it even in theaters?

’ they’ could always just turn off the AC in summer

Lots of ways to suppress a film

CNN, media tried their hardest to paint the film in a negative light.

//

The movie HAS been the target of supression, I guess you don’t observe media at all.

Why you so butt hurt about it ?

Why call people who point it out cultists, conspiracy theorists and dumb ?

Me thinks you do protest it too much.

Look, there’s still time to pull your head out, confess your sins and accept Christ as your personal savior.

All it takes is an honest prayer of confession to God and acceptance of his forgiveness and salvation.

Try it, I promise you’ll like it.

Is there something you’d like to confess ?
