A Mexican restaurant in New Jersey is serving up an ultra strict dress code — despite the fact that it’s on a truck route next door to a QuickChek convenience store.
Cantina 46 — off of Route 46 highway in Ridgefield –has a laundry list of fashion faux pas including: no plain white t-shirts, men’s tank tops/sleeveless shirts, beach attire, sweatsuit/athletic attire, excessively baggy clothing, flip-flops or slippers, work boots or inappropriate headwear.
“We don’t want to be like a regular restaurant, we want to be high end,” partner and manager Joaquin Molina told The Post. The clothing regulations — which are posted on its website and a sign on the front door — start with “no plain white tees.”

“quite a number of the battles of the Revolution were fought here that resulted in patriot victories ...”
By that logic, Massachusetts is still worthy of respect.
The majority of the battles of the American Revolutionary War were fought in New York, New Jersey and South Carolina.
Probably
A few years a similar dress code showed up for some bar and I asked my son about it. He said the “work boots” was to keep the black thugs out! “Huh?? For wearing work boots!??”
He explained that it is a hip-hop thing, specifically tan Timberland work boots. And the wanna-be “rappers” wear them. I imagine it is similar for the “baggy clothes” and “inappropriate head-wear” (such as red or blue bandannas or hats).
Although I bet if I showed up in my baggy shirt, jeans and brown work boots I would be just fine. Maybe even my red, white and blue bandanna on my head - but I wouldn’t push it.
I wonder if it’s still an all-white t-shirt if it has a little blue polo pony on the chest.
Although I would not be caught dead or alive in NJ.
Me neither...except for subs. You cannot beat a Jersey sub anywhere.
Admittedly, the comment made is a bit dated as things have changed over the years and there are exceptions to any generalization made.
Who k we? Well it was just a few years back that Timberland boots were all the rage in our town. And the preppy guys wore then with Ralph Lauren shirts.
Typo who knew?
I like little blue ponies.
A dress code for customers. Another thing.
A dress code like they have, their choice but they would have to have some top class food.
Interesting article. Seems to have phased out. I remember buying Timberlands at Sears.
I recall going to restaurants back in the day. Jacket required. If you didn’t have one they handed you one and you wore it no matter the fit. No jkt no eat. I miss the good old days.
I have not been in one since the kids arrived.
“Hey, cut the shit with the NJ bashing, ok?”
I was born and raised in southern California.
If you want to simply count years of residency I’m now very much rural Hawaii, 23 years.
I bash ALL states north of the Mason-Dixon line and East of the Mississippi river. NJ just happened to be the target today.
‘Although I would not be caught dead or alive in NJ.’
I’m sure the entire state will go into a period of deep mourning upon hearing this...
Generally you run lines constantly and have it give short speeches to small venues, gradually working up to larger ones. "Imagine them all in their underwear" I tell them.
“I’m sure the entire state will go into a period of deep mourning upon hearing this...”
I absolutely agree with your sarcasm.
Most all Democrats are too stupid to understand how much the silent majority despises them.
I’m just one of the few that verbalize it.
Were it not for our Fuc**d up voting system you would have a much different country.
