The Washington Post recently reported the following:

The Proud Boys organization must pay more than $1 million to a historic Black church in D.C. after a judge determined members of the group damaged a Black Lives Matter sign displayed on the building’s front lawn in 2020.
The judge said that replacing the sign and protecting the church cost only $36,626.78.
So a judge has ordered vandals to pay restitution equal to approximately 27 times the amount of the damage that they caused.
As a person who believes in incentives, I think this is great, and I hope it sets a new precedent.
I hope that all future vandals will be held to this same standard.
As long as it is equally applied to BLM and Antifa vandals. I just don’t have much confidence in that though.
When they start to apply that to graffiti “artists”, then I know this is serious and not just a WOKE judge spewing flatulence.

A default judgment against an organization with no assets is worthless.

Hope is dandy, but it’s a safe bet that “future vandals” will not be similarly punished unless it suits the judges’ beliefs. BLM caused billions in property damage yet has been required to pay nothing.
What was the ratio of punitive damages to actual property damage in the judge’s prior 100 rulings in vandalism cases?
Both vandalism and Lawfare are loathesome. This judge has imposed selective punishment based on his/her/its own political agenda, completely out of proportion to the harm done. As such the damages should be substantially reduced on appeal. The appellate court should censure the judge for abuse of power.
All vandals under any circumstances should be incarcerated and made to work for 1/2 minimum wage until complete restitution for all damage is made. No exceptions, exemptions, or exclusions.
This won’t stand, appeal will certainly reel this nonsense in.

Not convinced that Proud Boys isn’t actually a USG false flag operation. So, does the government pay the fine to itself?
