Nato allies back fast-track membership for Ukraine
The Guardian ^ | June 21, 2023

The UK foreign secretary, James Cleverly, has said all Nato allies are backing a plan to give Ukraine a fast track to Nato membership of the kind offered to Sweden and Finland earlier this year.

Speaking on the margins of the two-day Ukraine Recovery conference in London, Cleverly said the UK was “very, very supportive” of Ukraine being able to join Nato without the usual need for it to meet the conditions set out in a Nato membership action plan (Map).

The French foreign minister, Catherine Colonna, was more cautious but said circumstances had changed since 2008 when Ukraine was last offered Nato membership on the condition it met the terms set out in an action plan.

The issue of the terms on which Ukraine is offered Nato membership has been dividing allies before a Nato summit next month. There have been concerns in the US and Germany that early Nato membership for Ukraine might provoke Russia, and change the Nato structure.

Cleverly said the Ukrainian army through the war had modernised and aligned its weaponry with Nato to make it possible to dispense with an action plan. The offer is conceived as an alternative to offering Ukraine a timetable for membership at the Nato summit in Vilnius next month. Ukraine would like a pathway with specific dates...

I have no issue with Ukraine having NATO membership provided we withdraw from NATO first and let Europe take care of their regional problem themselves

Your whole post here is EXCELLENT.

“The NATO members are all useless Euroweenies who are woke to the point of being totally castrated. Inviting Ukraine into NATO will force Russia to use nukes to create a buffer between Western Europe and Russia.”

Putin may be that crazy but the Russian military wants to survive not commit suicide, so they’ll opt to get rid of Putin and his war rather than commit suicide.

Adding Ukraine to NATO while it is in the middle of a war?

That is what I am wondering. I see no problem with adding Ukraine to NATO after a peace treaty is signed, but untill then, the accession treaty might as well be a declaration of war on Russia. War with Russia will not be quick, may or may not be victorious, and will have any number of unanticipated side effects.

If Russia wins this war, then the cost of rebuilding from the ashes will fall on Russia.

If Ukraine wins the war, the cost of rebuilding Ukraine will fall on the United States and your children and grandchildren.

If it ends up a stalemate, then the US will still be saddled with rebuilding Ukraine.

Nobody is going to benefit from this war.

We should have stayed neutral. It’s none of our business.

“We should have stayed neutral. It’s none of our business.”

We said that twice before with regard to Europe, and neutrality proved wrong when the wars eventually impacted our own interests.

What did George Washington have to say about foreign involvement?

We entered WWII because America was attacked.

We have been involved in endless useless wars after that with the only benefit going to the companies that build weapons of war.

Can you name a successful war that the US has been involved in since 1945?

How much are you willing to spend of your grandchildren’s money to meddle in the affairs of Europe?

Especially when Europe is no longer free. Europe has no freedom of speech or the right to bear arms. They are all the things America should hate. Yet we spend trillions of dollars to keep their fascist governments in power.

It’s time to just say no.

“ We have been involved in endless useless wars after that with the only benefit going to the companies that build weapons of war.”

There is one other group that benefits - the perfidious American politicians that pocket large sums from those companies and from money laundering operations in countries ‘hosting” the wars created by America’s military industrial complex.

Makes you get all fuzzy and warm realizing that America and the people inhabiting its government make such enormous sums of wealth by spreading death, privation and destruction all over the world. (That last was deep sarcasm, if anyone is wondering).

“What did George Washington have to say about foreign involvement?”

George Washington did not live in our times. Context is not an irrelevancy in international relations. Even the third President inlvoved us in wars to end the barbary pirates in the Mediterranean. Why? It diectly affected our trade with EUROPE. Yes. Some Americans had been hijacked by the pirates and imprisoned in North Africa but it was Eruopean nations’ traders who were affected the most, way more than the U.S. The U.S. (under Jefferson and Madison) did what the Europeans failed to do - took offensive measures against the babary coast countries the pirates operated from. That was “foreign involvement” in wars - not neutrality. From that era the Marines get the phrase “From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli”.

“We entered WWII because America was attacked.”

And why was that? Because Japan took our staying out of their war in Asia as a sign of weakness. Yes, and because Germany, who was already at war in Europe, thought our staying out of that fight meant they could get away with hitting ocean freighters headed across the Atlantic to their opponents in Europe.

America “staying out of” wars involving friends and allies often has meant America entering a war it thought it could avoid at a time the opponent had become stronger.

So far this war has only made America weaker.

Russia was not a threat to the US. But China might be. Our military is now too depleted to take on China. Unless we are willing to use Nukes. We’re not, but they might.

You neo-Cons need to actually study history.

“You neo-Cons need to actually study history.”

A reflexive reaction and not true. It’s a comment without foundation - thinking anyone who disagrees with you holds a certain general foreign policy philosophy.

People should read the article.

“All sides have agreed that Ukraine cannot join Nato – and thus be covered by its guarantee that an attack on one is an attack on all – until the war is over. But the offer to drop the Map would be a signal of European intent.”

These are just formative thoughts. No conclusions.

1. There are large numbers coming to Christ in Africa and Asia. “Until the fullness of the gentiles” come in. “Not willing that any should perish”

2. Biden proclaims transgender, lgbtq as America’s primary goal.

3. Russia is pushing for chemical castration of pedophiles
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12213513/Russia-considers-forced-chemical-castration-paedophiles.html

4. Lots of Africa makes lgbtq illegal
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/kenya-could-follow-uganda-as-east-african-nations-wage-war-on-lgbt-rights/ar-AA1cTZVD

5. Romans 1: God gave them over to a depraved mind.
Where is USA in the bible?

6. Daniel: God elevates leaders and nations to bring down other nations.

7. In the interim because God is bringing in souls in Africa and Asia, could there be a period of Russo, African, Eastern dominance. Down the road of years creating a dominant power in gog/magog to eventually rise and move.

8. As God gave Assyria a time of repentance under Jonah, could these be in their coming to Christ as the usa once was? But later fall away?

“How does your foreign policy philosophy differ from that of Joe Biden or Mark Miley?”

Vis a vis Ukraine, I, like Trump, would have made sure Putin knew he best not invade Ukraine in tbe first place; unlike Biden whose wishy washy policy as much as invited Putin to invade.
