Ever since voters passed Measure 109 in 2020, dozens of entrepreneurs have helped shape Oregon’s emerging legal psilocybin economy. These are people who see their role in bringing psychedelics to the public not so much as a job but a higher calling. Here are nine early participants who span the gamut from spore to trip.
Retreat center visionary
Mike Arnold has big plans for a former Seventh-day Adventist boarding school in Gaston, Oregon: “the biggest psychedelic retreat center on planet Earth,” he said.

I have a friend who really stutters, after he did mushrooms he no longer does. Weird..
Timothy Leary’s dead
No, no, no, no, he’s outside looking in
How many times did he have to consume mushrooms before the treatment worked?
Eaten or smoked? Just curious.
He’s outside, looking in
There’s a lot of research going on with micro-dosing. It seems to REALLY help with depression, PTSD, various maladies with deeply entrenched thought patterns. Now I don’t know about these mushroom pushers, but it has been known to be very helpful as it actually heals the brain somewhat.

Someone gave him some capsules of some kind. Just once.
Funny that they cannot find any life saving or therapeutic properties in any non-intoxicating plants or herbs. Only in things that make you high. Quite convenient.
You're a regular pharmaceutical expert, aren't you? Penicillin was first made from another fungus, bread mold. The precursor to salicylic acid (aspirin) was sourced from willow tree bark 3500 years ago. The foxglove flower is used to make digitalis to regulate hearbeat and treat epilepsy.
And psilocybin/magic mushrooms can be microdosed (doses too small to feel any detectable effect at all) for relief of symptoms of depression and PTSD.
Too bad they haven't found a plant or herb that can treat terminal sanctimony.
No sale. These natural remedies that you enumerate were discovered many years ago. Perhaps microdose psilocybin is truly beneficial for some. My main gripe is with marijuana. It seems to cure everything from athlete’s foot to migraines. Incredibly, no other plant or herb has recently been discovered with so many medicinal qualities. I live in a state that has not legalized recreational marijuana. I live in a town of less than 12,000 people and there are 8 weed shops. All these therapeutic claims are primarily BS workarounds to get high. No drummed up data or bogus studies will change my mind. If you wanna get high on weed, that is your prerogative. Just be honest and stop pushing the magical elixir tripe.
“Incredibly, no other plant or herb has recently been discovered with so many medicinal qualities.”
No other species of plant has so much variety and different active compounds that act on so many different parts of the body. Cannabinoids are within us and control nearly everything in the body. Not only are there so many compounds but they also synergize and act differently in the body when used in various combinations.
There are endless potential cannabinoid combinations to discover and we have only begun since it was illegal to even research for so long.
One strain of cannabis can have completely different effects versus another. Many have ZERO intoxicating effects or potential for addiction.
Cannabis also acts differently depending on individuals. A miracle cure for one person can make another incapacitated.
Well, the thing about micro-dosing is that it doesn’t make you high. Supposedly you feel nothing, as the amounts are so small. They take roughly a month to gradually make you think more normally and for your brain to physically heal. It’s not like taking a full dose and going on a “trip” or a “high”. I did find it interesting, as possibly a better option than many mind-altering drugs.
If you would like more information about what’s happening in Oregon, please FReepmail me. Please send me your name by FReepmail if you want to be on this list.
Therapy for PTSD takes place in the brain. Why are you surprised that psychotropics are potentially beneficial? And lots of plants are used as topicals that aren’t intoxicants. Ever heard of aloe?
There was a homeless combat vet that I became acquainted with during the summer of covid. He was always on edge. He had been a door-breaching team in Iraq, and was wound pretty tight. One day he breached a door, and a teenager shot him with an AK, so he returned fire and he killed him. He found some magic mushrooms growing in the park he was staying in, and ate them. It took the edge off, and could function as a person.
There is a lot going on with the hallucinogens and mood disorders. Research is ongoing.
Very hopeful area of treatment.
Too bad they haven’t found a plant or herb that can treat terminal sanctimony.
