Recreating the musculature of the leg and pelvis, the imagery supports the supposition that this part-time tree-dwelling hominin walked completely erect, like humans, but more than three million years earlier.
Starting with human MRI and CT scans to map muscle pathways, Wiseman next focused on virtual reconstructions of Lucy's bones and joints, and then married up cues from muscle "scarring" on the bones.
The resulting model shows how Lucy was capable of upright, erect locomotion but also possessed powerful leg muscles that facilitated her species' half-land, half-arboreal lifestyle. Researchers believe the extra muscle power in the legs – 74% of the total mass compared to around 50% for humans – enabled A. afarensis to exploit both land and tree habitats.

As I understand it, there is very little evidence. Fits in a box. The find a tooth, pinky bone or a small skull fragment then make giant leaps of “faith” in describing the rest of the body. I am no expert but there are artifacts found very deep in coal beds that also lead to a cyclic rise/fall of modern humans. We just don’t have skeletons to go along with it.
Not being an expert, I could more easily believe we have been “modern” for a very long time but have repeated bottle necks.

They had amazing forest cities. Their libraries were very extensive, going back over one million years, but unfortunately, the writing was on bark scrolls and had to be reproduced every 100 years or so.
Then there was the forest fire during a drought, and there wasn’t enough water behind the dams to extinguish it. Most of the library was lost.
It was during this episode that Lucy lost her life in a heroic attempt to save her neighbor’s kids.
