"He was the nicest guy. He was so talented," Treat Williams' agent, Barry McPherson, tells PEOPLE

Treat Williams, the star of Everwood and Hair, has died after being involved in a motorcycle accident. He was 71.

The actor's death was confirmed to PEOPLE on Monday evening by his agent of 15 years, Barry McPherson.

"He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off," McPherson says. "I'm just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented."

"He was an actor's actor. Filmmakers loved him. He's been the heart of the Hollywood since the late 1970s," McPherson continues. "He was really proud of his performance this year. He's been so happy with the work that I got him. He's had a balanced career."

Jacob Gribble, the fire chief for Dorset, Vermont, tells PEOPLE the crash happened on Monday around 5 p.m. on Route 30 by Long Trail Auto near Dorset, Vermont.

Folks in the ER call them “Donorcycles.”

One reason people constantly pull out in front of motorcycles is caused by the simplicity of the human mind. The brain is a single core, single thread CPU.

In your mind, you turn and look for a car/truck object. Because of this singular focus, you are very prone to not seeing things like motorcycles, bicycles, dogs, skateboarders.

You can look right at these other objects and not “see them” because you are looking for something else.

It has happened to me, but fortunately, a blaring horn alerted me in time to avoid collision.

When riding a motorcycle you have to imagine you are invisible.

He was making a left or a right... Aftermath of bike wrecks difficult sometimes to ascertain.

Just saw him in an episode of season 13 Blue Bloods.

Treat was Reagan’s, Tom Selleck, former NYPD partner in the series.

RIP Treat Williams.

Was in the industry for most of the 1970s. Turned wrenches for 2 shops and also out of my home garage. Rode for that period too. Had a few falls. Had a few close calls not involving falls. Thought better of maintaining this as a lifetime pursuit. Bike free since the early 80s. I was the problem. I rode like I wanted to die. Once I stopped riding like I wanted to die, I saw no interest in it.

I ride for pure pleasure of riding.

I had/have my share of road rash from my younger days.

Did stupid stuff. I don’t know how I’m still alive, but by the grace of God.

Now, I ride just to ride. You should try it again!................😎

The one thing motorcycles have going for them is the noise they make. You usually know when one is around.

With electric bikes, I see a lot more collisions unfortunately as they will be able to sneak right up on you.

I gave away my Kawasaki 700 the day my kid was born. Figured enough was enough. I had a greater responsibility than to enjoy myself.

He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off," McPherson says.

So vehicles making a turn have the right of way? Or was the car also turning into the same space? My usual expectation is that a vehicle making a turn waits until the through traffic clears.
