Years ago I dated a South African woman. That resulted in my first three visits...all of which were before Mandella. She lived in a quite affluent suburb of Johannesburg that reminded me of the time I spent lost in Palos Verdes Estates (LA).

My last visit was to tour some game parks. We chose a nice suburb of Jo'burg as our base and traveled from there. It was nice...there was a Rolls Royce dealership a hundred yards from our hotel...but *everywhere* you looked you saw high walls,gates,barbed wire and signs that said "Protected By XYZ Security: Armed Response".

And then there were the townships.We drove past one of them on the way to Kruger National Park. Absolutely Third World...every bit as bad as what I had seen in Tanzania,Kenya and Malawi.

Ever seen the satellite photo of the Korean peninsula at night? South Korea lit up like a Christmas tree...North Korea completely dark except for a small bit of light where the capital is.

China will move in for the resources,the $$$ and the influence. I saw it during my last visit there. I'd bet the clothes on my back that they'll eventually be allowed to set up a naval base and an air force base there. Of course that will require a few local politicians to be “persuaded” (if ya catch my drift).

South Africa has a nice temperate climate. A bit dry, it needs competent people to maintain the reservoirs and wells. The Chinese have that.

They also have lots of people. I could see them moving in and making it work by getting rid of the blacks.
