In Japan, an estimated 1.5 million people — many of them young men — now live in complete isolation.
The problem has grown so severe that the Japanese have a term for it: Hikikomori, one who literally withdraws from society.
SNIP
During a recent interview with Chris Williamson, a British podcaster based in Austin, Texas, the political economist Nicholas Eberstadt discussed the fact that 7 million men of prime working age are currently without employment and not seeking jobs. Many of these men, said Eberstadt, spend inordinate amounts of time indoors, totally withdrawn from society.

Yes, God made man to not be alone.
But the god-given tendencies that He gave us with the intention of using them in good ways have been perverted and used selfishly. That selfishness is what is wrecking things.
Nothing a world war can’t take of.
s/b Nothing a world war can’t take care of.
Thing is now we have plenty of other things to keep our brains amused.

I read that even China has this problem.
Considering how men are being treated these days, I can see that happening easily.
Men have been despised and mocked and ridiculed for decades. Masculinity, at least in men, has been disparaged. Small wonder men don’t want to interact with *society*.
Or joined the priesthood, or a monastery.
Or used as cannon-fodder in a rich man’s war.
YouTube is filled with videos/podcasts about toxic young women (with these women on the shows). They all believe they’re “a 10” yet believe the average guy is “a 3”, and 90% of them go after the top 2% of men.
When I say “top 2%” I mean:
- $200k/year or more
- 6’1”+ tall
- Very handsome
- Makes you laugh
- Spoils you
- Treats you like “a queen” always
- Is sensitive
- Honest
- Loyal
- Etc.
When you ask the same women “what do YOU bring to the table?”, all you get is “me! I’m THE prize”. They’re all “me me me!”. Can’t cook, cleaning is beneath them, etc..
This all means that the average (”a 5”) guy gets *very* little attention and they’re giving up. Even if you could attract one of them, why would you want to commit to that?
Now, I have a daughter in-law, that has notified my son that she wants to separate. They both make good money (not the problem), have two great girls (5 and 7), get along, no infidelity, no abuse, etc. - she even tells him “you’re still my best friend”, acknowledges he’s the best dad ever, and is great to her. She’s 36...and seems to think that she will be able to go back onto the market, divorced, with 2 kids, and yet, somehow, get something better. She’s going to destroy 4 lives (incl. her own), the kids don’t even see it coming.
There’s something VERY WRONG with the current culture, especially for how we’re raising young women, all while going on and on to men about “toxic masculinity”. SMDH.
“Used to be folks tired of the Society around them joined the Military...”
Or joined a monastery
Yep, no frontiers to explore, every place you might visit looks exactly like where you just left, the same stores, restaraunts. No adventure, no risk, just female-approved roles to fulfill.
Great post—young men need to be very careful these days, including worrying about sexual harassment claims in the workplace.
That may look “anti-social” to outsiders.
Virtual sumo wrestler?
Pray God it doesn't come to that.
Or The French Foreign Legion
When a woman suddenly wants to separate, for no known reason, it’s usually because she is being unfaithful and thinks she has found a better option.
90% of the time, her new relationship will fail and she will be begging to be able to return to her now ex-husband.
Odds that is what is going on with your daughter-in-law. However she found her new guy, she thinks she has tried him on enough to want to make the relationship permanent.
Would be nice to hear how these folks are getting by and what the actual living conditions are.
Is Japan like the US where, unless you are living in a box, the gov is snagging half or better of your income in taxes (that’d be all taxes not just income)?
In such a situation, it is a pretty valid position to not bother working anything over the table. Especially when that money is going to pay for “reparations”.
“Serve” whom? Homeless psyho drug addicts?
