Connor Hughes and his wife Brieanne both grew up outside Philadelphia. They met working at an ice cream shop in high school and stayed together during college despite going to different schools. Hughes says they’ve both been fortunate enough to find decent-paying jobs, and they’ve been smart with their money, knowing in the back of their minds that they wanted to buy a house one day, with more than $100,000 saved. They’ve even got a baby on the way. There’s just one problem: They’re losing hope of finding anything affordable in south Jersey and ever moving out of their two-bedroom rental in the suburbs of Princeton, New Jersey.

Desperate to buy a home in a state with property taxes that run you over $10k/year? Only in Bidenville!

First, it surprises me that Yahoo let the word “s__t” go through uncensored. I guess that’s just where we are in society today - there is no forum that will not print vulgarity.
Second, if they go to the PA side of Philadelphia, they will find a very nice house for $600,000 and a decent one for $350,000. Even in Jersey, they will find a decent house for a couple hundred grant. They probably want something in a nicer area, or newer, or bigger.

Young people today, have a much more difficult time of affording the American dream of homeownership than previous generations did.

“They're losing hope of finding anything”
cry ... me ... a ... river
WAAA ... but it's not like mommy and daddies ... and it's not by a park ... and it's not 2 minuets to the mall ...and it doesn't have 5 bathrooms .... and ..... and ... and it's
just not fair.
hmmm ... I could see their point ..
on topic .. yes the housing market is tight but if you want your dream house , you have to build it.
the house is out there ... (x-file music)

Why do you consider these people dumbasses?
To: 1of10
Exactly. It’s not that they can’t find a house, it’s that they can’t get their conception of a “dream house” with their budget.
They can just go to Zillow.com, do a search for all the houses in the area that are in their budget, and go “these are the choices, pick one”.

Another 18 months and they’ll be plenty of short sales and foreclosures. Be patient. Be smart. Buy low, sell high. A house is no different than stocks. Why would you want to buy in a high cycle? It offers no dividend, only additional recurring costs.

Hughes said they pulled up to Church Rd. in Mount Laurel to see a four-bedroom, three-bath home and it was filled with parked cars and a line out the door, like someone was having a party. Signs of another government-inspired financial bubble.
