Charles Barkley loses 62 pounds after taking weight-loss drug Mounjaro

The round mound of rebound is less rotund.

On an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” last week, Charles Barkley revealed that he is down over 60 pounds since he started taking the weight-loss drug Mounjaro.

“I started taking this drug called Mounjaro about six months ago,” Barkley said.

“It’s been amazing. My doctor, she is amazing. I know a lot of people take Ozempic, but my doctor prefers Mounjaro. I started at 352, and I’m down to 290.

“It’s been great, I’ve been starting to feel like a human being — not a fat-ass anymore. I want to lose — I can’t get to my playing weight, which was 250, but I’m gonna get to 270. My doctor told me, ‘There’s a lot of fat young people. There aren’t a lot of fat old people. They’re all dead!'”

Barkley, in his own special tone, stated matter-of-factly that he was on this weight loss journey because he wanted to remain alive.

“I gained a lot of weight when I got my new hips, and I was like, ‘Yo man, I want to be here,'” Barkley continued.

“I’m working out. I’m taking my shot once a week. Like I said, I’m gonna get down to 270.

“Man, I want to be here — I don’t want to leave all my money to my freeloading-ass family!”

Funny thing is that if he skipped the drugs and just ate normal, he could lose 4-5 lbs/week or more.

Good for you! What’s it cost per month? How long have you been taking it?

I’ve been taking it about a year. It only costs me $60 a month, but I have very good insurance through my pension.

What about good, ol’ fashioned (and cheap) metformin?

It takes a few months to ramp up to the effective dose, but it causes weight loss and controls blood sugar?

I just hit the century mark

Are you saying you're 100 years old? Because I don't think that's what you mean, but...?

“If I can’t get out and exercise, then I deserve having a spare tire around my mid section.”

Completely respectfully and acknowledging that opinions vary, my own view (and personal experience FWIW) is: weight loss is overwhelmingly about what and how you eat and exercise plays only a comparatively very modest role. If you eat sugar-free & low carb and only consume calories during a one-hour period each day, your body’s form will quickly revert to how it is designed to be, regardless of exercise, and be healthier than anything a pill can deliver. I once thought this sounded crazy and unsustainable. It turns out not to be. I recommend youtube videos by Mark Hyman, Eric Berg, Eric Westman, Sten Ekberg - each with a bit different emphases but overall headed in a similar direction.

I tend to agree.

No worries, good luck. What these guys recommend does work. Some nuances between them but I think any of them will work but only if you go all in, because half-measures won’t work at all. Of the four I mentioned, I am least in favor of the Dr. Eric Westman approach because it is strictly low carb without much emphasis on the quality of ingredients. No doubt, he’s a solid guy who knows his stuff but personally I lean more towards “clean” low carb 23:1 OMAD. But almost anything is better than the Standard American Diet (SAD) of sugar and potatoes and seed oils and lots of snacks, with a Diet Coke chaser.

The Round Mound of Rebound was is moniker.

Big Auburn player.

Did his best against the Bulls after Phoenix signed him.

I always respected his honesty.
