Biometric Comparison between Face of Veil of Manoppello (Resurrection) and Face of Shroud of Turin (Burial)
Heritage (MDPI) ^ | 24 January 2019 | Liberato De Caro, Emilio Matricciani and Giulio Fanti

Recently we have studied the unusual optical properties of the Veil of Manoppello, a canvas representing the face of Jesus Christ … with that visible on the Turin Shroud. In particular, the paper focuses on assessing whether the two images can be superimposed, i.e., whether they are different images of the same face. Indeed, some scholars have suggested that the Veil of Manoppello and the Turin Shroud show different images of the same face. We demonstrate that the face of the Turin Shroud, after a logarithmic transformation of the intensity and the correction of the background noise, shows cheeks’ profiles, not visible before the digital processing, which overlap very well with those of the restored face of the Veil of Manoppello. These correlations between the two images of the face of Jesus raise the question of their historical relationship.

To those who don't believe, no explanation is possible. Those those who do believe, no explanation is necessary.

It is asserted that the Shroud of Turin is the burial shroud of Jesus Christ after His interment in the new tomb owned by Joseph of Arimathea.

It is asserted that the Shroud of Manoppello depicts the Face of Jesus Christ at the moment of His resurrection.

There are so many fascinating details concerning the Shroud. One of the most interesting to me, is that the image on the Shroud had no flattening of the backside. IOW, the body was not touching the bottom side of the Shroud when the image was created.

IIRC, Jewish burial practices of the time of Jesus, there would have been a face covering cloth in addition to a full body shroud.........................

I had thought that I had heard of everything pertaining to the shroud of Turin. This is the very first time I’ve heard of the Veil of Manoppello. You’ve given me something new to research. Thanks!

Believe the testimony of eyewitnesses to Jesus' life, death and resurrection. That testimony is called the New Testament.

The tomb is empty.

He is risen!

He's coming back!

I stand corrected. The Manippello Image does not appear to be connected with the Resurrection, but with the Way of the Cross, before the Crucifixion. It is supposed to be the Veil of Veronica. I apologize for spreading misinformation. Please excuse me.

There was a face cloth, the Sudarium of Oviedo. It matches nearly perfectly with the shroud.

So the Veil of Manoppello and the Suderium of Oviedo are the same?
Are they the Veil of Veronica?

I get confused…

All just throwbacks to the time when towns would get rich if they had a “relic”. Thousands of them were manufactured some very cleverly because they brought in big bucks in the Christ industry.

See post 7. No they are not the same, I have never heard of the veil of Manippello until this thread, but it turns out to be a moot point anyway since the veil is not associated with the shroud of Turin, ie our Lord’s Resurrection

The most interesting detail to me is that the Shroud is a photographic negative.

This explains why it didn't attract much attention around the world until the end of the 19th century. The reason for this was that it did not seem to be all that spectacular -- just an ancient piece of fabric with what appeared to be the image of a man on it. What changed all of this was the advent of photography. An Italian photographer received permission to photograph the Shroud during one of its rare public displays somehwere around the 1880s, and while he was developing the film he produced a negative that had far more detail than the original image. He thought he had done something wrong in the film development process, but quickly figured out that the negative he had developed in tis process was actually a real "photo."

So tell us in detail exactly how the Shroud of Turin was “manufactured”.

All the scientific evidence shows that the shroud was not created by human beings, it is not a fake relic. We don’t even have the technology to re-create it now, let alone in the middle ages. The image was formed by a sudden burst of intense radiation, it has fossil pollen from plants in the Jerusalem area, the image itself has three dimensional code in it, the blood stains in it are real human blood, AB positive, that contains high amounts of bilirubin, indicating extreme stress and suffering prior to death. There are 360 blood stains on the shroud, indicating the person was whipped by a Roman flagrum.

Love the Shroud! I feel like it is a gift especially to our times, when the photographic qualities became known. I also love the effect of combining these two images - stunning!

There are counter arguments for every single one of these. But shroud believers are a lot like flat earthers. No matter what they're still going to believe. The simple truth is that the shroud has been recognized as a fake for centuries. It was used to make money.

The counter arguments are weak and mostly nonsense. And as far as flat Eartherism goes I could say the same thing about shroud deniers who despite the evidence, the absolute overwhelming evidence of the authenticity of the shroud still believe it’s a fake.
