A 17-year-old boy slipped and plummeted to his death from the popular new 6th Street Viaduct in Los Angeles, after climbing the bridge as part of an apparent social media stunt, according to police.
The youth’s body was found at about 2 a.m. Saturday on the eastern side of the span, which has become a troubling magnet for gunplay, dangerous stunts and careless online clout-chasing since it opened about a year ago.
The teen, whose name has not been released, was taken to LA County USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said Tuesday during a meeting of the Los Angeles Police Commission that the victim lost his footing and fell “when climbing upon one of the arches, in order to post, apparently, a social media broadcast.”

6th Street Viaduct in Los Angeles, crossing the L.A. river bed.
I saw it once when it had water in it.
Now, when was that?
Let me see.

Leave it to L.A. to actually go out of their way to plan, design, and construct a dangerous attractive nuisance right smack dab in an area frequented by foolish people.

The bridge design is asking for it. And also god what an ugly bridge. Wonder how much they spent to get an unattractive bridge that doubles as an attractive nuisance.

Compare that monstrosity with the much more attractive bridge in the background. Too many gays on the design committee.

How long before the bridge is closed temporarily so the government can install safety nets? Bungee cords could also be an idea...

I’ll bet there are people who are going to blame the bridge, and demand they put up nets, etc.
The problem is not the bridge. It’s irrational action by humans. There appears to be no cure for that.
