A 17-year-old boy slipped and plummeted to his death from the popular new 6th Street Viaduct in Los Angeles, after climbing the bridge as part of an apparent social media stunt, according to police.
The youth’s body was found at about 2 a.m. Saturday on the eastern side of the span, which has become a troubling magnet for gunplay, dangerous stunts and careless online clout-chasing since it opened about a year ago.
The teen, whose name has not been released, was taken to LA County USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said Tuesday during a meeting of the Los Angeles Police Commission that the victim lost his footing and fell “when climbing upon one of the arches, in order to post, apparently, a social media broadcast.”

Agreed, as my son says, “remove all the warning stickers and let nature take it’s course”.

His father should have warned him about the dangers of social-media addiction, and not let him out of the house at 2 AM Midnight basketball might have helped. And a free "Obama air gauge"

Some people have to learn by doing dumb things.
Sometimes those dumb things kill them.
But they can be a lesson for more thoughtful people who learn from their example not to do dumb things.

There’s at least some money in robbing a liquor store. And the risks have gone way down with the handcuffing of law enforcement.

me and a group of friends jumped off the top of a railroad bridge above the Boise river in the mid 70’s to celebrate the first day of high school. It was about 90 feet up. Turns out the pilings of the old bridge were still next to the new bridge. Big 4 by 4 foot square concrete pilings about 3 feet under water. lots of them. We didn’t land on any. Darwin award contestants. (None of us won the award.)

New term learned:
"clout chaser"
From the web:
What is a clout chaser? Clout chaser is a critical term for a person who is thought to be intent on attaining fame, especially one who tries to do so in ways considered desperate, such as leveraging their proximity to famous people or doing things considered foolish, degrading, or dangerous.

I had a green beret buddy who said that when they left Vietnam he and another green beret did some liquor store hold-ups just for the rush, not the money.
