A Phoenix woman was found dead along a hiking trail — and police believe foul play may have been involved and have released a video of a person of interest spotted running near the scene.
Lauren Heike, 29, was found on Saturday at around 10:30 a.m. along the trail on 6500 East Libby Street near her home, nearly 24 hours after she went out, police said.
Phoenix officers originally received a call about an injured person spotted on the trail, but it was confirmed to be Heike’s body, which appeared to have suffered “trauma.”
Phoenix Homicide Lt. James Hester told reporters Wednesday that Heike was likely attacked from behind due to her injuries, and that her body was found in an area that was not easily visible from the hiking trail.
Hester believes that the alleged murder was so terrible, that the killer would have likely stuck out to anyone who came across them on the hiking trail, with police releasing a video of a person spotted near the area where Heike was found.

A MAGA Republican led by Donald Trump?
You will not be able to find a DOJ, or court established definition of Person of Interest. It’s nothing more than a politically correct term for suspect.
Could be the same guys who attacked Jussie Smollett.
In all seriousness, these gals just can’t be out there on these trails alone. It’s just not safe in those remote areas.
Tragic. 😞😦🙁
GOOD
Statistically, most persons of interests are likely suspects, that is true. However, as the law uses the term, it just means somebody who may have information leading to the arrest of the suspects, even if that information ends up implicating the person of interest themselves.
But it is not a legal term, that is also true.
“Person of interest” is a term used by law enforcement in the United States, Canada, and other countries when identifying someone possibly involved in a criminal investigation who has not been arrested or formally accused of a crime.[1] It has no legal meaning, but refers to someone in whom the police are “interested”, either because the person is cooperating with the investigation, may have information that would assist the investigation, or possesses certain characteristics that merit further attention.[2]

And here I thought it was invented for this guy:
For all freepers and their loved ones.
No one should go out alone on any trails, or alone or unarmed at night.
We no no longer live in FAIRYLAND. We live in a rapidly devolving third world country. It may look like Mayberry, but it ain’t. Even at its most isolated. Millions of invaders have come in and many more are coming if the leftist extremist pouers have their way.
I live it what was one of the lease crime ridden areas of the country. Rapidly this expensive and beautiful area is being taken over by crime and the local leftists are busy dishing out food packages and clothing and furniture to these “newcomers.”
Protect yourself and your family. Never travel alone and never stop.
And for God’s sake do not let your young vunerable women and men run or hike alone.
Certainly does.
“Call the police if you see someone acting nervous,” doesn’t seem like the best guidance.
Not in any way a bad neighborhood or area. Goes to show that predators can lurk anywhere.
Potential witnesses can also be "persons of interest".
Warning signs & @PhoenixPolice Mobile Command unit posted near 64th street off Mayo Boulevard.
The trail behind this neighborhood is where 29-year-old Lauren Heike was found dead Saturday morning.

A Person of Interest may be someone who knows who did it but didn't do it themselves.
There are no more GOOD Neighborhoods.
THere is no more policing
People from bad neigborhoods can and are driving everywhere.
People have legs and can walk or bike.
UPDATE: @SilentwitnessAZ now saying this person is a suspect in Heike’s death.
He’s described as thin build with dark complexion, wearing a dark backpack, gray/light shirt, dark pants and shoes. | @abc15 https://t.co/ahzjxMvsye pic.twitter.com/xYBNdMTAvR— Christine Stanwood (@stanwoodreports) May 3, 2023

Who wants to bet me his name is not Daniel, Benjamin, or John?
Packing like your sister does, and some situational awareness is what it takes for a young woman out by her self.
